Map Update: Syrian Army Deploys In About 11km From Abu Al-Duhur Airbase After Major Advances In Southern Idlib

Support SouthFront

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF), led by units of the Tiger Forces, have liberated a large area from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) in southern Idlib and deployed within only 11km south of the Abu al-Duhur Airbase.

On January 8, the SAA and the NDF liberated over 11 villages from militants, expanding the buffer zone around the recently liberated town of Sinjar and avdancing towards Abu al-Duhur.

Why is the northern front so silent? This would be excellent timing to drive from the north while the FSA/HTS vermin are looking south!

Dr. Ronald Cutburth

I opine the SAA has needed to be extremely careful about the number of their casualties since they are overall limited. They have been slow moving when compared to the US army in Europe of WWII. There were heavy casualties. General Patton was cursed for the heavy loses.

MeMadMax

And the link showing US loses under patton can be found where?

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Just use search it comes up with several instances alone as this was typical with old blood and guts , his tough talk and the soldiers tough walk.

Jens Holm

The whole WW2 is well descriebed and You understand the whole picture.

Pattons did not kill as many as the others. He was a speerhead under Bradly most of time penetrating germans defences and going behind them.

By that the other troops of Bradly could win important fights killing.

Thats what spearhead troops are made for as well as the other troops do their parts of the jobs down to just guarding 100% taken terrain and traffic control.

All the famous marshalks in WW2 are almost all kind of specialists able to with talent to do very different jobs.

If You take Eisenhower in west, he was not the best in the field as army commander. His jobs was to be good in coordinating all those different troops in fleet, army, airforce and intelligence. Many americans being fine generals are not able to do that.

Eisenhower was educated in the Pacific as staff member for McArthur having contacts with japanese, chinese, britts, phillipines. He also had a good memory and very important: he was a leader which listened to his emplyed as well as kept the line to the politicians(Roosevelt, Stalin, Churchill, De gaulle).

He also were very good imploying mainly good people and got rid of several abd ones. Finally I would say he made a good job mingling officers and the ordinary soldiers. That was his forces.

When he afterwards even became a President he was kind of grey making no real mistakes as wellas few exelent good ones. More like a communicator, where all agreements made by others were kept.

If You take Montgommery, I would say he was much less a communicator but a much better in the field fighter in brittish context. He would have won WW2 in the western part too, but slower caused by less communication.

northerntruthseeker .

Actually you are wrong.. Patton’s Third Army had the fewest casualties in the liberation of France after they broke out through the Avranches gap during operation “Cobra” launched on July 25th 1944…. The real casualties were in Montgomery’s area with his ridiculous “slow and meticulous” advance along the French coast…

Patton was purposely slowed down by the criminal Eisenhower to prevent him from reaching the German border in mid August 1944 by depriving him of vital gasoline necessary for his forces.. That lack of gasoline caused the majority of his casualties going into mid September 1944 and prevented his army from marching right into Germany by September and ending the war by the end of 1944..

Jens Holm

I agree. A minimum would be to divide Patton into periods.

Jasminko Grdic

This would be a good time to atack from nord , maybe AL Eis to capture back , or Kahn Thruman in Aleppo, but on other side maybe then it would be a different positon and not secure to control situation when you on a Hill and control the field it’s easy and safe for your men.

Richard M

It could be so. That front has been stationary for a long time. I expect it has trenches like WW1.

Андрей Глебов

I used to think it’s because of the cease fire agreement which is supposed to be kept somewhere there, but now I completely confused: where and with who the agreement is to be respected at all.

MeMadMax

There was never a cease fire with HTS.

Андрей Глебов

Right, but where is HTS and where is not – that’s the question.

Jelly

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Syrian_Civil_War_detailed_map take a look at this map and you know

MeMadMax

The map shows: https://syriancivilwarmap.com/

Андрей Глебов

As far as I see, there are a number of different maps each of which shows different situation.

MeMadMax

I could tell you that x map is better than y map all day…

… but this map proves itself over time.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Correct that was only in the Hama pocket which all the groups there decided to violate it, Ali Haidar is in no hurry to negotiate at this time with them as his current response is a military action.

Андрей Глебов

I rather suppose the offensive from Khanasser again. At least there are some force has been accumulated there already.

Richard M

All parties have agreed that cease fire agreements do not apply to ISIS, HTS (Qaida) and similar terrorist groups.

Weldon Cheek

The ceasfire doesnt involve any alqada or isis etc, only the so called “moderate” opposition, and seeing as the drone attacks on the russian bases are now suspected to have comebfrom the de’escalation zones it could very well mean that soon there are going to be more groups added to the list of legitimate targets they have.end of the day they all need eliminating in the end,how can the Syrian government allow any of them to just walk away? If it was me i would of done as the gov is doing, smash them militarily and once they down weapons it would be time to send out the death squads.

Bosna

Probably the jihadi positions over there are heavily fortified and it would require large losses to break through

Richard M

Good point. Even so diversionary demonstrations might help accelerate HTS’s collapse. Things are going well so why not increase the pressure on the collapsing vermin?

PizzaPineapple

There’s still a large force of terrorists in these areas. I’m sure once more reinforcements will head south that there will be breakthrough attempts.

Richard M

Just a week ago there were stories of a major SAA buildup on the Jisr ash-Shugur Front. I like seeing the terrorists confused and unable to decide where their forces are needed most.

ALEPPO327

Attacking from the north means that they must penetrate the defensive line there.. there isn’t much need to it since HTS defences have collapsed in the south.

gold37

The Northern flank is staying where it is because their objective is the besieged towns north of Idlib city, they will move once Al-Qaeda and co are weak enough.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They have to secure a 400km2 area which was captured over the past few days, which takes time but in the meantime they still liberated more villages in the meantime.

Richard M

I hope to see a repeat of the East Aleppo battles of late 2016. When the Cauldron was sealed the terrorists outside were making desperation attacks to try to save their surrounded vermin-brothers! It will be even sweeter with the Daesh in the southern part of the Cauldron battling their HTS vermin-brothers like two skor pions in a bottle!!! :D

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Coming from the Knasser Highway to Abu Duhr would be the best and pushing Northwestwards closing the area to the north and forcing them to retreat from it.Then the Isolation would work as long as they take control of the mount in the south keeping ISIS in position where they can be controlled.

Jim Prendergast

It is sad that this has to happen, This is an excellent example of a well organised force taking control of the battlefield. Success to the SAA and allies!

That Guy

Time for a pincer on Abu Duhur?

PizzaPineapple

The speed of the advancing Tigers is absolutely incredible. Where ever they go – they bring home a victory! Once the Tigers arrive in Abu Al-Duhur most HTS troops probably fled the east for the “safer” areas around Idlib. This front will totally collapse the next days / two weeks.

Solomon Krupacek

The speed of the advancing Tigers is absolutely incredible

slow.

in the beginning of war with russia the wehrmacht brigade made in 1 hour such deveopment. at the and of the war brigade of red army tokk such amount of km2.

30 km/day is normal velocity.

slow, slow, slow. but vivat saa!

BMWA1

That’s why the German invasion of the Soviet Union worked-out so well?

Solomon Krupacek

dyedmaroz defeated germans. the present russian haters will you explain, who is he :))

Gregory Louis

Your comparing apples to oranges solomon what does that battle have in common at all to any modern conflict or even this one…..go ahead take your time…because I’m pretty sure those men weren’t facin SVIED’s, huge tunnel bombs, UAV’s, MLRS’s, and suicide bombers

Solomon Krupacek

look, 400 km2 = 20×20 km. this is nothing also today. look at american/british advances in gulf war2.

Gregory Louis

You mean empty desert expansion…..look at the SAA advance in SouthEastern Syrian desert what the fuck is your point….those wars are different to the one the SAA is fighting

Solomon Krupacek

in southestern syria??? for looon weeks i see the same giant isis pocket. general rommel would say you, how easy is to fight in desert.

Gregory Louis

Lol what the fuck are you on about first off Rommel lost in North Africa secondly the SAA took twice as much land in the SouthEastern Syrian Desert unless you really didn’t keep up with the Syrian War this whole time….the “huge” ISIS pocket is just left there because those ISIS fighters can’t do anything in that pocket very few ISIS units are even still there so it would be a waste of time for the SAA and it’s allies to clear it….so they moved on to HTS and the rebel groupings instead

Solomon Krupacek

rommel lost beacause of hitler. but he is the best desert general ever.

BMWA1

You blame Santa?

Solomon Krupacek

No. He was on the right side. :)

Jens Holm

Their well known problem was their lack of cleaning up after the advances because they had not enough infanterists.

Many will add, they took too many troops into destroying all human made as well as the civiles there. The revenge came fast, they had not enough building materials for making defence lines and fortresses.

I am no nazi, but if i was at that time, they also should have used those civilians(and militaries) working until they died.

Just killing and burning: What as waste ….

Eskandar Black

Solomon, your lies may only be matched by your ugliness. The fact that you refuse to admit the success of the SAA is pathetic.

Manuel Flores Escobar

Solomon dont know anything about military tactics …in the Syrian battlefield terrorist TOW team wait for SAA troops to thwart the advance…then SAA have to deploy Tiger forces which have the mission to Hunt ( with snipers+ATGM team) terrorist, TOW operator and suicidal vehicles to make Solomon Sad!

BMWA1

It is mostly a matter of Urban warfare conditions and infantry also have major differences with WW2 versus tanks esp., as the hand-held weapons today are much more effective than the anti-tank rifles (although Soviet one was good against very light tanks like Panzer 2’s).

Situation in Syria is more like Battle of Berlin than the German operations like Case Blue etc. over wide steppes.

Finally, civilian casualties are being kept to a minimum in SAA fights.

Jens Holm

Palmyra – Sukna was 400 meters a day. You must have a very bad memory.

RichardD

It’s clearly a close and clear pocket in the making that the Syrian government coalition has developed great skill and tactical capabilities at carrying out. This is what’s in store for the SDF Israelistan area once clearing western Syria of the Jew world order regime change terrorists is further along. And additional resources can be deployed to the eastern front. Which will give the Russians the time to put the peer air defense capability in place to prevent air strikes on Syrian government coalition forces reestablishing Syrian government administration east of the river.

Jens Holm

Thats beyond all facts.
