France’s National Front leader and presidential candidate Marine Le Pen is going to consider restrictions on immigration from terror-linked countries, which are currently used by US President Donald Trump, if she is elected as President of France, a leading member of France’s Front National party Steve Briois said.

“Why not,” Briois said, answering a question of reporters whether Le Pen would consider implementing a policy similar to Donald Trump’s one if she had a chance as president. “We are not living in the land of Care Bears anymore. We are in a horrible world. So from time to time, we must take authoritarian measures, even if they shock.”

“It is true that the United States is also a target for jihadists, so if Trump wants to protect it by forbidding the arrival of these people from these countries, he is free to do that,” Briois noted.

“Obviously, it is unfortunate for those who have nothing to do with that,” he added.

According to a decree, signed by Trump on last Friday, people from seven countries with predominantly Muslim population, in particular citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, are prohibited from entering the US for 90 days.

Le Pen still has not commented on the new policy of the US President, but she repeatedly praised Trump and even said that their campaigns are pretty similar.

“We are similar because we are not part of the establishment, we are not part of the system, and we do not depend on anybody and we don’t take orders from anyone,” she told the CNN TV-channel.

“Donald Trump has made possible what was presented as completely impossible,” Le Pen added. “So it’s a sign of hope for those who cannot bear wild globalization.”

According to several surveys, Le Pen is a leader of the polls ahead of the first round of voting in France’s presidential elections, which will be held in April.
