On January 5, Ukrainian forces attempted to launch new massive attack on the Crimean Peninsula. The attack was first announced by the governor of Sevastopol in the evening. The attack was latter confirmed by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, which provided detail of the incident.
According to the report by the Defense Ministry, Russian air defense forces repelled the attack of 10 guided missiles at about 5.30 p.m. Moscow time. According to the local authorities, one civilian was wounded by wreckage of the missile as a result of the attack.
Wreckage of the intercepted missiles fell in different districts of the city, mainly in non-residential areas. Russian air defence forces professionally repelled the attack. That’s why civilian casualties were avoided. Emergency personnel have gone to all the areas.
According to unofficial reports, five Ukrainian Su-24M bombers and two MiG-29 fighters, which took off from Starokonstantinov, Mirgorod and Kanatovo airfields, launched Storm Shadow cruise missiles and several ADM-160 MALD decoys towards the peninsula. In total, ten missiles were shot down by Russian military personnel, most of which were Storm Shadow.

Earlier in the evening of January 4, Ukrainian S-200 anti-aircraft missile was intercepted over the Russian Lipetsk region. The governor of the region also announced the destruction of a Ukrainian UAV.
At about midnight, the attacks resumed. The AFU opened indiscriminate fire on the city of Belgorod. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that at about 11.40 p.m. Moscow time, the air defense forces destroyed 10 MLRS “Alder” missiles over the Belgorod region.
As a result of the shelling of Belgorod, two people were wounded, the governor said. Footage from the city confirmed that the AFU did not target any military facilities but civilians. If the missiles and drones attempted to reach any military targets in Crimea, attacks in Belgorod are nothing but acts of terrorism against the civilian population.

More Ukrainian aircraft are currently operation in the sky over the south of Ukraine. There is a threat of another missile attack. An attempt to launch an attack by unmanned boats on the ships of the Black Sea Fleet is highly likely to follow.
The massive attack takes place exactly after yesterday’s comprehensive NATO reconnaissance operation in the Black Sea. Five NATO aircraft and UAVs were spotted in the Black Sea region. At the time of the today’s missile strike on Crimea, a US RC-135W was patrolling in the air.
UPDATE: Having suffered defeat during the attack on Crimea and Belgorod, the Ukrainian military switched to massive shelling of Donetsk. Russian air defense is actively working over the city.
In its turn, Russia is responding with strikes from the southern direction. Powerful explosions were already reported in Kherson. More are likely to thunder in the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions in the coming hours. At the same time, Russian missiles have already reached their targets in Chuguev in the Kharkiv region.
