Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu stated that Mikoyan MiG-31 supersonic interceptor aircrafts equipped with Kh-47M2 “Kinzhal” hypersonic aero-ballistic missiles would take part in the Victory Day parade in Moscow on May 9.

“Apart from advanced Su-57, Su-30SM and MiG-29SMT aircraft, upgraded MiG-31K fighters armed with the cutting-edge Kinzhal hypersonic missile systems will take part in the parade’s air component,” Shoigu said, commenting the Victory Day parade, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

Shoigu pointed out that 190 units of military equipment that “identify modern outlook of the Russian Armed Forces” would be shown at the Red Square.

On March 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled the project of the Kinzhal hypersonic aero-ballistic missile platform. According to Putin, the Kinzhal missile can fly at more than 10 times the speed of the sound and is capable of maneuvering and overcoming existing and future air defense and anti-ballistic missile defense systems.

On May 5, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said in an interview published on the Zvezda TV channel website that ten MiG-31 jets armed with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles are already on test combat duty.

“It is a cutting-edge weapon, namely a hypersonic long-range missile capable of overcoming air and missile defenses. It is invincible, having serious combat might and potential. The MIG-31 is its carrier as the jet is the most fitted for accelerating this missile to required speeds,” he said. “In support that it is not something exotic, [I’ll say] today ten jets have gone on test combat duty and are ready for use depending on the situation.”

Kinzhal use rocket motor ?

Darko Dakić

it is strange. I could read about 1 year ago Russian claim they have rocket fuel what make hypersonic speed possible by rocket engine . The form is also not right…just does not look like hypersonic vehicle…maybe the nose pop up at some stage

Tudor Miron

They live fired it already. NATO was watching – they could easily calculate velocity. They didn’t say a word.

Approved

Same with the USAF and NATO officers in Qatar US CAOC command center , when they all saw more than 70% of their missiles got intercepted by syrian AD and then have to listen to pentagon and mattis lied about the 100% strike success bullshit on newspaper..

behind the media propaganda , the military men knew how potent the russian EW systems and their air defense capability today. The last time US/NATO ever face a large AD was in 1991 against undisciplined iraqis and it is a cake walk , after that NATO attacked nations after nations without being challenged by real AD.

the result ? complacency.. arrogance.. downfall

Savio

Why are you amateurs talking as if you know a damn about it?

It doesn’t look like hiperaonic vehicle? Lol, what?

This is first hipersonic missile of this kind in the world. So how do you know how “they” look, when this is the first one? You saw animations on youtube, so you know how they should look? :)

If you are not scientist, then stop talking about things that you do not understand.

Darko Dakić

Not really the first one

Approved

they are trying to undermine russian achievement , because these people are too deep inside western kool aid propaganda that for decades been saying western tech is best.

supersonic or hypersonic airframe already existed aplenty. unmanned rockets by NASA can give them images of how hypersonic will look , and it is clear from the stubby rocket nose cone that it is not needle shaped as some of these guys seem to imagine

Darko Dakić

this is nonsense, I am Serb and my wife is Russian…so don´t tell me about cool western propaganda. Sure I am amateur, no rocket scientist. What I could see Kinzhal has no scramjet vehicle shape, at list not at the stage pictured above. My guess was maybe front part would pop away at some stage and release scramjet.nossle, what is sure back part is popping away as soon as missile released and rocket engine start, it is just good to keep a missile stabile as long it use MIG 31 as a host. So far I know most hypersonic vehicles are scramjet engine based, Zircon, bhramos 2, and many more. Maybe is my English just too bad… I have also mentioned that Russian have claimed they have rocket fuel that can run hypesonic vehicles …with rocket engine, not scramjet. I have hoped for some information and got basically just some bitching :) Cheers

testera

I’ve read that it is based on Iskander-M ballistic missile. That would explain shape, propulsion, and the trajectory it uses. Ballistic missiles achive their maximum speed in terminal part of their trajectory, and gravity helps them “going down fast”. Zircon and BrahMos are cruise missiles, which means they need to accelerate while flying horizontal.

Approved

are you familiar with aerodynamics at supersonic speed ? you would do well to research hypersonic/supersonic airframes and ditch your preconceived notion of ‘scramjet shape’

JPH

No intake so rocket.

David Parker

I don’t know a thing BUT I speculate it must be some sort of ramjet because it apparently needs to be moving at mach 1 or 2 to start.

D boy

America be warned do not provoke Russia

Andrew Interrupted

Americans aren’t threatening Russia, their Jew/Bolshevik occupation government is. . https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fc647fe464653b597bc130db622880bac9ecbc99e62314528e9186a1d37dd2d5.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a906424486946f58b6d5300be82c4ef7265223049c484762d183377473edcca0.png https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ada7a9187fc99882d43ce9eb01410b6ef5e97885613f3cc8cbe83c03b3172e66.gif https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/1772fe7bee27b86637ab11b8bc164b9f1697162136dab6d36cebbf0c687334cf.jpg

David Parker

Outstanding! Where did you dig up the graphics for these Soviet Socialist propaganda posters? I wonder if the gen-xers realize the original thinking in the USSR was deadly serious? Is that Bernie dressed up as Lenin? Zuckerberg doesn’t make a Joe Stalin. A mustache just doesn’t fit on that wimp. Needs a lot more work to make him into an Uncle Joe. However, these pictures are more expressive than ten thousand words.

Andrew Interrupted

Yes, that’s Bernie Sandersnista.

Ummm “ThePeoplesCube.com” , I think

Tudor Miron

I just love this bird. It is so unique and different than other Russian fighters. Different purpose leads to different solution.

David Parker

Looks like a modernized Mig-25. The Mig-25 was the USSR rat-rod that could be pushed right up to disintegration at mach 3.2+. I believe the Foxbat ended SR-71 overflights and forced the CIA to rely on satellites from then on.

Tudor Miron

Yes, It is a continuation of Mig-25 but Mig-31 (Foxhound) is a huge step forward. It’s an old plane still -1981. 2011 BM modernisation programm increased it’s capabilities 2.6 time. It’s a perfect platform for hypersonic missile.

as

Ironically this encountered several times over Iraq’s airspace that the MiG25 speed characteristics make so much headaches that they purposely devised a plan to trap said planes. Put a drone with AA missile as bait so it can then be shot down by F15 ambush. An F15 air superiority fighter failed against older Mig 25 because it’s just too fast. They should’ve learn the lesson back then that speed does work.

Barba_Papa

The SA-2 did that when it was used to shoot down Gary Powers’ U2 spyplane over Russia. As far as I know the SR-71 was never used to fly over Soviet territory. The Foxbat was developed to counter the potential American Valkyrie mach 3 bomber, But when that got canceled (the F-35 wasn’t the first overpriced flying lemon) it became an interceptor without its intended target. But since the Russians never throw anything away they still found some good use for it.

Although I think that the Mig-25 was used to deter American SR-71 overflights over Arab countries.

HighLord Gaz

“As far as I know the SR-71 was never used to fly over Soviet territory.”

Yes, specifically because of the MiG-25/31. Not just because it was fast, but because they had powerful radars and fats long range AAMs. Soviet pilots intercepted SR-71s at several times (ie radar & weapons lock within firing range) when the spy planes were buzzing the USSRs periphery, but the Seppos never admit that fact, preferring to believe their own BS lies.

Vitex

I love the idea that a sixty-year-old russian plane or tank can still do what most american weapons cannot.

Approved

It is never cancelled , your information sources are incorrect. It is also the jet that manage to shoot down modern US jets in the hand of syrian (shot down an IAF F15) and iraqi (shot down an F18)

Tudor Miron

May I ask for some more details, please? I would like to learn more about mentioned events.

Approved

details ? the iraqi Mig 25 incident already recorded publicly as with the downing of IAF F15 by syrian mig 25. Please do the research

Tudor Miron

That’s why Mig-31 is different than Mig-25. While both of them are primarily air defence platforms, 31 has much wider target nomenclature starting with ballistic and cruise missiles as well as their launching platforms.

David Parker

Thanks. I always believed the CIA flew the SR-71 over the USSR. It seems there is a long gap between the time Power’s U-2 was shot down and the development of satellite reconnaissance. Judging from those pictures of a farmer’s plowed field that Madeleine Albright used as a pretext to destroy Yugoslavia, satellites weren’t very good until about the year 2000.

velociraptor

no stickers?

HighLord Gaz

Thats what we expect from you… fucking stupid comments…

paul ( original )

I shall look forwards to seeing these weapons tomorrow when I view the Victory parade. But in the end I still believe that Russia’s greatest weapon is the calibre of the infantry fighting man

David Parker

As always. A 500-billion dollar 10-year war and a million tons of bombs did not stop the NVA. A 2-trillion dollar 15-year war with hundreds of tons of bombs has not stopped the Taliban.

paul ( original )

Yes indeed there is a pattern here. The only problem is that a lot of suffering and destruction is inflicted. The USA does not overly loose all that much. Although I have never entirely understood the phrase ‘ war is the health of the nation’ may be it is appropriate.

Rob

Several Kenzal hypersonic missile can be easily carried by strategic bombers but then Kenzal need separate booster.

Savio

Engines in Su57 are covered. Look at the last prototypes. Also only end nosles are not covered, just like in F35.

Rob

That I am saying. The jet engines in SU-35 and in SU-57 both are uncovered.

leon mc pilibin

As long as israhell does not get to share this technology, after all the nutty crime minister is attending,,,what a disappointment for all decent people everywhere,,and an insult to the Russian people also.

Rob

Israel is not only a threat for Muslims but for whole world including Russia.

ruca

The parade will make these weapons real for fukinya-hui. Nothing to worry about.

testera

Just the looks is enough for it to work as deterrence. Photographs should be distributed to all USA warmongers, and aircraft carrier personnel.

as

The missile silhouette itself don’t look new or special though i guessed that was the intention.

testera

It is supposedly based on Iskander-M, which would make sense because it also is hypersonic.

Jesus

Currently there are 10 Mig31BM configured to deploy the Khinzhal missile…..more to follow.

Oscar Silva Martinez

Neat pictures of such an intimidating aircraft, it’s like it is screaming at you: “Dare to challenge me idiot!!!”

I have always wonder how it if feels to fly this beast at top speed

Vitex

I hope someone in Russia has considered the possibility of a pre-emptive strike against Russia during the parade

Rex drabble

It would be a stupid thing for them to do but its a real possibility. Russia knows that and you can bet a swift reply is only a phone call away.

This time though we will see Putin enjoying the games whilst the perpetrators are getting demolished. It will most likely come from Ukraine if at all.

888mladen .

So what?
