Mighty Ukrainian Navy – Photo Report

Support SouthFront

Just a rough look at the Ukrainian Navy’s cruiser ‘Ukrayina’ (Slava-class cruiser or Project 1164 Atlant).

The cruiser remained unfinished at the harbor of Nikolaev in southern Ukraine during about 32 years.

I’m bemused and not quiet sure what is this report about? The fact that only 3 of the 10 Slava ships where built and launched because the Soviet union collapsed?

sólyomszem

Lot of similar ships are also in russian ports. ;)

The question is not if there are similar ships in russian ports but if Russian navy has enough capable ships

sólyomszem

Does not have.

Gary Sellars

Enough for what? Russia has no need for a global force projection capability to match the USN. Their priority is to protect their home waters and deny the USN the freedom to operate, ie A2/AD capability. Subs and land-based avation are integral components of their forces, surface vessels less so.

Jacek Wolski

The pictures in this article clearly shows a Soviet built warship. And this one is not capable, and that is clear for all to see. And does the Russian navy have enough capable ships? Yes, I think we can see that too. Especially if you live in England, a couple are sailing by.

Leo Smith

Mistaking by a fishing boat.

sólyomszem

??? shall i put links?

look at cerrier kuznetsov. the enmey does not need readr, the diesle smoke is inough to find and identify.

the russian navy is also underground level.

Leo Smith

what do you know about the ships? you some kinda nuclear aircraft carrier expert? got a degree in marine engineering boy? i don’t think so, so you better stfu and choke on a fat piece of salo

sólyomszem

okay, you can write what you want. the nternet accept. me not :)))

russia has excellent rockets, godd planes but poor navy. theay are not eble to build cchopper carrier. therefore want to buy from french (Mistral).

Gary Sellars

They bought Mistrals to accelerate procurement, not because they couldn’t build their own. It was all about schedule.

BARNERD

Fair enough. It’s because ships do not really have a great place in the early Russian war strategy. They do not need them to get to Europe or China for that matter. They rely more on subs to neutralize the US Navy threat. They do have a descent enough fleet to use as force projection.

Jacek Wolski

Boy? Stfu? You are a real wordsmith, English must be your second language. Hissy fits and tantrums are reserved for kindagarden kids.

Gary Sellars

You’re an icking fudiot…. The K just needs a boiler upgrade and she’ll be right as rain. Russophobe eejit….

sólyomszem

ROFL

Jacek Wolski

What’s with the anger and the vulgar display of power? We don’t want to start WW3

John Whitehot

lol, idiocies. If you think you can hide a carrier task force if it did not smoke you must be stuck in world war 1 – which is likely, as you have an hungarian nickname. So let me update you – there are satellites in orbit, patrol planes, radars and sonars everywhere. No carrier is sailing in the world without being followed by its potential enemies. So go back at playing world of warships instead of demanding a government that does not modify the constitution to suit its needs.

Jacek Wolski

At Olenya Bay? No fishing boats but plenty of rusty subs. How’d you like them apples?

Leo Smith

They should sell it to the China, those guys know their stuff.

Gary Sellars

Its a pity what those filthy ignorant Ukropistani idiots have done to such a proud ship. its fit for nothing but the breakers yard….

Well, in reality the rust is probably just surface corrosion, and as long as the hull is protected by a impressed CP system she can probably be made into a fine vessel, but it will take a lot of effort and cash, and the Ukies can’t afford it. Russia could, but she has three units to upgrade, and wants the cash to build new ships like the Leader class.

Jacek Wolski

I’m bemused and not quiet sure what is this report about? The fact that only 3 of the 10 Slava ships where built and launched because the Soviet union collapsed? The mighty Soviet navy era ships are rusting in a Ukrainian shipyard? Are there not Soviet era ships wasting away in Russian shipyards like at Olenya Bay? You can use Google Earth, zoom in and see for yourself.

Gary Sellars

Actually, there are no “Soviet era ships wasting away in Russian shipyards”. if you think there is, pls name the vessel and the anchorage. The derelict ships from the 90s and 00s have long since been broken up.

In case you were wondering, the Kirov class cruisers Lazarev and Ushakov are not “wasting away” but are mothballed awaiting a final decison on modernisation or disposal.

Jacek Wolski

Go to Google Maps, type on ‘Nezametnaya’, change the terrain to ‘satellite’ and zoom in. Now tell me what you see. Soviet era subs rusting away in water and more in dry dock getting scraped to the south west next to the white building. There is a great article about this at http://www.urbanghostsmedia.com/2011/08/forgotten-soviet-submarine-graveyard-kola-peninsula/. You can also go to urban5p.ru/object4255.

Jacek Wolski

The French Navy, British Navy and the US Navy, also have a handful of rusting hulks in ports or hangers. ‘Sea Shadow’ was a good example of cold war era ship building that never came to fruition. Although it made an awesome film prop.

John Whitehot

the difference is that french,uk and us navies also have ships that are not rusting and are operational. “Chevrona Ukrayina” was an operational ship in the soviet black sea fleet in 1990, it ‘s the same class as the Moskva missile cruiser the Russians employed in the med. It’s a unit that is on par with AEGIS cruisers, if updated and maintained – but Ukrainians as usual destroyed everything good they had in their military, in order to keep their plan of submission to the zionist indebted west. They probably got some change from demounting all the sensors and weapons on the ship and sell them to the US, with the knowledge of fullfilling their sacred, antirussian duty. Disgusting to see how people sell theirselves like cheap hookers these days.

What ever happened to paint! It was decades ago, but I remember having to paint, paint, and paint, whether it needed it or not! After all these years, I still get an inexplicable urge to paint!

Brad Isherwood

Maybe Empire will use the rusting junk as background in another psyop movie, Like ..The World is not enough ( James Bond )….Empire vs Russia/Russia pipelines with hired Terrorists.

Poroshenko takes over the Caspian Caviar Racket…..causing Russian mob to use Russian military to hit back. ..

The Ukraine is not enough…… ( Music by Pussy Riot)

Ted

My understanding is while the outside may look pretty bad this thing is 3/4 done. Russia was attempting to purchase a while back. I don’t think it would take that much to put her right. To bad Russia did not just take the thing! If it stays in Ukraine’s hands it will simply rust away. It would still be a major investment but a fourth Slava for the cost of a Grigorovich Frigate would be nice for Russia,
