On June 27, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and Turkish-backed miltiant groups launched a new attack on positions in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in northern Hama.
According to pro-government sources, militant units engaged SAA near the town of Qusabiyah, but failed to make any gains or inflict a notable damage. The recently deployed reinforcements to the area allowed government troops to turn the militants’ local advance into a disaster.
Local sources speculate that up to 10 militants and at least one unit of military equipment was eliminated. Nonetheless, this number still has to be confirmed.
