A checkpoint of the Syrian Military Intelligence Directorate (MID) in eastern Daraa came under attack on December 7 by unknown militants.
Two militants on a motorcycle opened fire at the checkpoint, which is located between the towns of Jbeb and Kharaba, in the early morning hours. The two militants managed to escape.
Pro-government sources revealed that a personal of the MID, Ali Mohamad al-Shugri, was killed and at least two others were injured in the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, yet. However, ISIS cells are known to be active in the eastern Daraa countryside. In the last few months, the terrorist group carried out several attacks in the region.
These attacks are likely an attempt to destabilize southern Syria, once again. The vast majority of the region’s fighters joined the reconciliation process last year following a large-scale operation by the Syrian Army and its allies.
Are the sleeping ISIS cells trying to wake up the sleeping SAA cells ?
