Greater Idlib militants claimed late on April 11 that they had repelled an attack of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies in the western Aleppo countryside.
The alleged attack targeted militants’ positions in the vicinity of the town of Kafr Taa. Opposition sources claimed that an officer was killed in the clashes, with some even reporting that that the supposedly killed officer was Iranian.
Pro-government sources didn’t report any such operation or even clashes in western Aleppo. This makes the militants’ claims questionable.
A day earlier, the SAA shelled militants’ positions in southern Idlib and northern Lattakia. The militants may have come up with Kafr Taal story in response to the shelling.
Whether the attack is real or not, there is no secret that tensions are mounting in Greater Idlib. The northwestern Syrian region could witness a new escalation very soon. In this case, the SAA will likely find itself in another open confrontation with the Turkish military.
