Syrian militants shot down on January 24 eve an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the so-called Greater Idlib region in the country’s northwest.
The militants claimed that the UAV, which was downed near the city of Ma`arat al-Nu`man in southeast Idlib, was operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS). However, the video of the UAV wreckage suggests that it was Syrian.
The UAV design appears to be similar to Iranian drones operated by the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF), such as Ababil-3 and Muhagir-4.
Last August, a UAV of the same exact type with the same black paint was shot down over the town of Hesh in southern Idlib.
The UAV design allows to suggest that it was a Syrian copy of an Iranian UAV. However, this is almost impossible to prove as Damascus is very secretive about its domestic drone program.
It was an Iranian drone, not Russian.
Holy shit, SAA just begun their multi axis offensive towards al-qaeda occupied Maraat-Al-Numan in Idlib. Aleppo soon. Tigers are hungry, gotta eat. Godspeed SAA, SyAAF, RuAF, RuSF :)
SAA need to advance from al-ghab, southern idlib, eastern idlib and Aleppo at the same time. 4 fronts would overwhelm and force the jihadis to retreat to Ankara. We saw how this worked well in Daraa 2018, green bus express request after 1 hour of SAA offensive XD
Daraa area was a bit smaller, i dont think SAA have enough manpower for 4 fronts
Dayr Sharqi liberated by SAA, less than 10km to Maraat al numan :)
They can claim whatever they want, the reality is quite different.
….aaand THAT’s why you use DRONES.
If this is a Syrian copy of Irans now widely proven models, this is amazing news: They jihadis only have much smaler drones, this is giving SAA a massive advantage, even though this one is downed!
These drones should have explosive package on them, or at least some hidden homing device so you can send a missile directly on them.
