Syrian government officials are set to meet with representatives of the Syrian opposition and Free Syrian Army (FSA) groups to discuss a reconciliation agreement in the Eastern Qalamoun region, the Syrian al-Watan newspaper reported on October 26. The newspaper added that Russian officials will also attend the meeting that will be held in Damascus city soon.

The negotiations will include al-Dumayr and al-Ruhaybah towns as welll as Jayrud, al-Mansoura, al-Nasiriyah villages in Eastern Qalamoun, according to al-Watan report.

Meanwhile,Omar al-Sheikh, spokesperson for the Saraya Ahl al-Sham FSA group, told the Syrian opposition news website Enab Baladi that the meeting will be held on October 29 in Damascus city. However, al-Shikeh denied that a reconciliation agreement will be discussed during the meeting.

Opposition sources claimed that the aim of the negotiations is only to secure the ceasefire, and allow civilians to move freely from and to Eastern Qalamoun. However, pro-government sources said that the Syrian government is proposing a full reconciliation agreement.

According to pro-government sources the agreement will allow FSA fighters to join the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) or leave towards any other opposition-held areas like Idlib governorate. Also. according to the proposed agreement, the FSA will have to hand over all its weapons to the SAA.

A de-escalation agreement in the Eastern Qalamoun region was agreed upon back on September 5. Since than the Syrian government and opposition respected the agreement, and because of this it’s highly unlikely that the two sides will meet again only to re-discuss what they agreed upon months ago.

I hope those guys realize they’re lucky the head of the Syrian state, H.E. Dr. Assad, seeks a dialogue with them. I would like to see their heads, separated from the Syrian state…

I would find it hard to trust them if I was in the Syrian army and had them at my back. I know Assad means well, and maybe it works, but I’d have trouble trusting them.

Well the QSF, isn’t doing any betraying…remember their still Syrian…anyone’s ideology can be changed hundreds of rebels have surrendered and returned to civilan lives again…they realize now that the war is over for them ever since they lost Aleppo and their attacks in Northern Hama failing and with Russian air support they’d face a no win situation. They go into any background info on these rebels if they commited crimes against civilians and such before consideration they have a process like what they did to root out ex-SS members after Germany collapsed, and soldiers posed as other German soldiers during WW2

Muriel Kuri

Many of the senior SS members were swept out of Germany into the welcoming arms of US and S. American countries. But that’s another story. I hear what you’re saying about the QSF – Assad seems to have a handle on this – I’ve never known another leader to treat ‘rebels’ this way – in the least they would be arrested. At any rate, I hope it works out for all of them. Thanks for your intelligent input!

Yeah many Nazi’s where picked up by the US and USSR but for other projects…such as project paper clip…the rebels who changed sides or stopped fighting are the least radical and can be changed not much can be said for HTS and ISIS…he treats his people all the same no matter the religious background or ethnic background a true leader

Muriel Kuri

Yes he is. Now the former Qatar Prime Minister states what many of us thought from the beginning: In 2011 S. Arabia, Qatar, Turkey & US started funding and weaponizing the so called ‘Moderate Rebels’ which started the bloodshed in Syria. Read this link: http://theduran.com/former-qatar-prime-minister-qatar-saudi-arabia-turkey-and-usa-colluded-and-coordinated-to-fund-al-qaeda-and-destroy-syria/ for the story. Assad has had to deal with so much back stabbing, villainy, & death of his people and country – all the while trying to do the best he could under heavy sanctions from US. I hope & pray he will win out and get his country back as a whole.

After the debacle at Al Quratayn in which the Daesh insurgents certainly used the East Qalamoun area for infiltration the Syrian government has finally decided to lay down the law. Accept reconciliation or be run over. Good going – another enclave bites the dust!
