On August 27, members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and its allies launched an attack on positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) near the town of Abu Dali in southern Idlib.
According to pro-government sources, the miltiants engaged SAA positions near the villages of Tal Maraq, Salmuia, Jaduia, Sham AlHawa, Abi Omar. At least one suicide vehicle borne improvised explosive device was employed by militants. Firefights are ongoing in the area.
A Russian observation post is located near the town of Abu Dali. Therefore, by advancing in the area, militant groups are as always aiming to attack in the area where they can theoretically make some damage to Russian froces deployed in the country.
