In the late hours of February 6, a locally-made drone crashed in the outskirt of Idlib city in the northwestern region of Syria.
Opposition activists, who shared a photo of the drone’s wreckage, claimed that it was being operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS). However, these claims were nothing but propaganda.

The drone’s designed resembles the type usually used by militants to attack Russian and Syrian targets, especially the Hmeimim Air Base.
Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), that controls Idlib city, is reportedly responsible for manufacturing and operating these primitive drones. The terrorist group never acknowledged this. However, the drone crash near the city today support this information.
On February 1, primitive drones launched from Idlib attempted to attack Hmeimim Air Base. Electronic warfare means foiled the attack. Such capabilities may have been used by Russian forces to down the drone near Idlib city.
