Militants Panic As Syrian Army Units Take Offensive Positions Around Greater Idlib

Support SouthFront

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had put several of its units, including the elite 25the Special Forces Division “Tiger Forces”, in offensive positions around the northwestern region of Greater Idlib, a number of pro-governmental activists reported on July 23.

The activists, some of whom are known to be close to the 25th Special Forces Division, claimed that the army will soon launch a new large-scale ground operation against the remaining terrorists in Greater Idlib.

Opposition sources confirmed that the SAA was accumulating forces for a large attack in southern Idlib. According to the sources, the militants in the region were placed on high-alert.

In the last battle, the SAA liberated a large part of Greater Idlib. The M5 highway, which links Aleppo and Damascus, was also secured.

Russia and Turkey reached an agreement to stabilize Greater Idlib on March 5. Ankara reopened the Lattakia-Aleppo highway, known as the M4, under the agreement. However, terrorist groups controlling the region were not neutralized by Turkish forces.

Over the past few months, the terrorists violated the ceasefire agreement many times. SAA positions around Greater Idlib were targeted on a regular basis. Furthermore, a number of drone attacks were launched from the region at the Russian Hmeimim Air Base on the Syrian coast.

Turkey maintains a large military presence in Greater Idlib. The Turkish military deployed thousands of troops to the region in recent months. Air-defense systems were also deployed there.

Turkish military presence in Greater Idlib will hinder any new operation by the SAA and its allies. A new confrontation with Turkish forces will be inevitable.

I hope the Russians don’t stop the Syrians this time.

Assad must stay

i hope so too, i am so sick and tired of russia’s coddling of turkey

Jim Allen

Wake up, and take another look. There’s a whole world outside of Syria. Many of the things outside Syria affect Syria greatly. Negatively. You’re so focused on Syria you can’t see anything else. Having WWIII start would really fuck up your world, wouldn’t it ? There’s a method to Russia’s madness, and it’s working. Assad, Rouhani, and the others are smart enough to understand Russia has the clout to project globally, the best intelligence services in the world, the General Staff that knows how to fight at this level, and something called strategy. At Putin’s suggestion Iraq, Iran, Syria, the militias formed interlocking alliances, all allied with Russia. Having these countries, that the West had redrawn the borders on many of, created countries that never existed to make certain they would never come together to throw their criminal Zionist asses out.100 years ago. It is done. One suggestion. One example. Assad, and the others trust Russia, that trust is not misplaced. Syria will survive this, and being a bit of an Assad fan myself I think he, and his Government will to. “Ye of little faith….”

Assad must stay

i am a fan of assad but what is russia’s method? it allows israel to bomb syria 90% of the time, lets US planes fly over syria, lets them stay in their little at-tanf in the south, lets turkey occupy northern syria, do you really think US would go to ww3 for these countries? do you really think US soldiers would fight? for what would they be fighting? their illegal presence in these countries?

Jim Allen

I think I’ve covered this before. Israel’s attacks, are ineffective. So what if Israel attacks. US is running out of time. Attacking US risks starting WWIII it’s been trying to provoke Russia, and other countries into attacking US. Russia refuses to engage. Russia doesn’t “let” US Government do anything. Neither Russia, Syria, and Iran act in an irrational manner, but in logical rational reasoned, and measured responses Political and/or military. Why aren’t you aware of these things ? This information is plastered all over the media. Execpt in Western countries. Usually stated by the leader of one of these countries.

Assad must stay

Individually they are not.that effrctive yes but if you add them.all up they are rather significant, and what would US get out of ww3? They would be very hurt or destroyed why would they want that? No I think they are trying to get away with as much as they can and russia and its allies are letting a lot of it slide lately

Jim Allen

If you say so.

Well said.

Glory to the SAA.

El Mashi

Turkey will soon enter the Libyan quagmire with an invasion of Sirte. Turkey will be unable to hold a two front war in Idlib and Sirte. That is the signal. If Egypt was smart like Russia and Iran, they would have been getting military experience in Syria. This is what happens when you give your sovereignty to Saudi Arabia, Untied States and Israel and the Gulf Tyrannies. The result is no one respects you. Just ask the Ethiopians.

<>

Just a quick question Mashi, who do you support in a war between Israel and Hezbollah? or would you be neutral?

Icarus Tanović

You mean Israel-Lebanon?

<>

Hezbollah and Lebanon are the same now.

Gauging from what’s happened as a result of Turkish involvement in Syria and Libya. I’d put it in the net positive department. It’s almost like a WWF (World Wrestling Federation) staged event. With the end result being regional security stabilization and the advancement of the possible formation of a regional coalition that can obliterate the US in 30 minutes and Israel in 15 minutes that even the US won’t mess with to get the region’s Jew problem corrected. That Israel doesn’t stand a chance against conventionally or nuclear.

This may be why the satanic criminally insane Jews and Zionists are playing the bioterror card to kill us all.

RichardD

These are the people playing the bioterror card with their US and worldwide msm media machine and Jew/dem combine running the scamdemic, economic and social destruction of America, starvation in the third world, and implosion of the world economy. They are enemies of the state and humanity. Judaism needs to be abolished on our planet so that it’s Jew free. By outlawing it and permanently closing the synagogues and yeshivas.

Republicans rarely elect Jews. 43 out of 45 US Jew legislators are democrats. 20% of democratic senators are Jews. And 15% of democratic congressman are Jews. 0% of republican or independent senators are Jews. And 1% of republican congressman are Jews.

“Although Jews make up 2 percent of the U.S. population, nearly 7 percent of the new Congress is Jewish, with 36 Jews among the total of 535 lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. In the Senate, the 9 Jews members comprise 9 percent of that body.

All of the Jews in the Senate are Democrats, as are all but two in the House. The Republican exceptions are Reps. Lee Zeldin and David Kustoff, from New York and Tennessee, respectively. They are the only non-Christian Republicans in the Congress, according to a report by Pew.

This Congress has six more Jews than its predecessor, which had 30 Jewish members. The record was the 1993 Congress, which included 51 Jews — nearly 10 percent of the total.”

“I called ADL Chairman Abe Foxman, who was in Santiago, Chile, where, he told me to my dismay, he was not hunting Nazis. He dismissed my whole proposition, saying that the number of people who think Jews run Hollywood is still too high. The ADL poll, he pointed out, showed that 59% of Americans think Hollywood execs “do not share the religious and moral values of most Americans,” and 43% think the entertainment industry is waging an organized campaign to “weaken the influence of religious values in this country.””

How deeply Jewish is Hollywood? When the studio chiefs took out a full-page ad in the Los Angeles Times a few weeks ago to demand that the Screen Actors Guild settle its contract, the open letter was signed by: News Corp. President Peter Chernin (Jewish), Paramount Pictures Chairman Brad Grey (Jewish), Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Robert Iger (Jewish), Sony Pictures Chairman Michael Lynton (surprise, Dutch Jew), Warner Bros. Chairman Barry Meyer (Jewish), CBS Corp. Chief Executive Leslie Moonves (so Jewish his great uncle was the first prime minister of Israel), MGM Chairman Harry Sloan (Jewish) and NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker (mega-Jewish). If either of the Weinstein brothers had signed, this group would have not only the power to shut down all film production but to form a minyan with enough Fiji water on hand to fill a mikvah.

The person they were yelling at in that ad was SAG President Alan Rosenberg (take a guess). The scathing rebuttal to the ad was written by entertainment super-agent Ari Emanuel (Jew with Israeli parents) on the Huffington Post, …

The Jews are so dominant, I had to scour the trades to come up with six Gentiles in high positions at entertainment companies. When I called them to talk about their incredible advancement, five of them refused to talk to me, apparently out of fear of insulting Jews. The sixth, AMC President Charlie Collier, turned out to be Jewish. …

This putin interference is costing a lots of soldiers life.. I hope erdogan phone call wont force him to interfare.. This battle would have been finished long ago

SOF

SAA now forced to operate like the western backed militants to avoid being spotted by Turkish drones, Russia could easily openly tell Turkey to get lost over that Su-24 shootdown that resulted in the loss of one of their pilots. I wonder what’s the longer term, bigger game with Russia negotiating with Turkey that none of us are privy to?

SOF

I thought Idlib would take longer compared to battles on flatter terrain like in the Syrian Desert, but this is ridiculous. Turkey is a straight up invader of Syria having crossed internationally recognized borders and its forces should have been reduced to a smouldering crater long ago.

Russia could easily openly tell Turkey to get lost over that Su-24 shootdown some years back that resulted in the loss of one of their pilots. I wonder what’s the longer term, bigger game with Russia negotiating with Turkey that none of us are privy to?

RichardD

Turkey has a national security issue with the zio Kurds, and a border crossing agreement with Syria. The US needs to get out of Iraq, which will result in a Syrian victory. And allow a regional coalition to form to clear the IDF and Israeli government out of the occupied territories. And implement UN Resolutions to hold a referendum replacing Israel with Palestine. As part of abolishing Judaism. To end Israel and Jews on a Jew free planet, that will be much better for humanity. Including post abolition former Jews.

SOF

Certainly that complicates things.

I don’t see anything changing until US finds a way to tell Israel to go pound sand without being nuclear blackmailed like they did to Fukushima, Japan.

Brother Ma

No one cares about Turkey having security issues with Kurds. That is not enough of a reason for an invasion. Turks and Nato get out.

RichardD

The Syrian government coalition wouldn’t be in the NE with next to no casualties or equipment loss without the Turks having pushed the SDF and US south.

Brother Ma

So Russia stopped Syria huntingTurks only to allow more Turk soldiers to come in. Same as Russia forcing Haftar to allow more Turks to come in . I hope I’m wrong and this is really five D chess ,Mr Putin ,because from where i’m sitting it sure looks like you are allowing Turkey to get entrenched so they can never be kicked out….

John Wallace

It does look like Putin did a deal too allow Turkey to control Idlib and the separatists that moved there with their agreements with Assad plus the others. Was this an attempt to stop the war and placate all parties. ? The killing and destruction has mostly stopped but of course no party is or will be satisfied. With the numbers of Turkish troops and material there now it will be very messy for the SAA too confront them and the terrorists / separatist groups. .

RichardD

Idlib is being cleared. That’s what matters. The M4 has been reopened with minimal conflict and everything south of it is coming under Syrian government coalition control, also with minimal conflict.

John Wallace

That is what I was saying apart from north of the M4 which is still under control of the separatists and others. That looks set to stay under their or the Turks control.

Cromwell

It is totally unacceptable for ANY part of Syria to be under terrorist and Turkish control thats it period

John Wallace

While it is unacceptable history shows that what is unacceptable at times has to be swallowed. Take Palestine for instance or even the Golan Heights.. It appears a fait accompli has happened that is allowing Turkish and terrorist control of a greater part of Idlib. One doesn’t have too agree or accept it but sometimes life brings lemons.

RichardD

Most of Idlib isn’t part of the Kurdish border issue. It’s part of the terrorist issue where it was used as a dumping ground for all of the terrorists who were allowed to relocate there from all of the other areas in Syria being cleared. In exchange for them leaving those areas without further conflict.

It also is a Turkish security issue. One of their own making, because they supplied and or supported many if not most of those terrorists initially. And don’t want them back in Turkey causing problems.

However, unlike the Kurds who are Syrian citizens living on land that they lived on prior to the war. The Idlib terrorists are not. And don’t have any right to be there, other than as a temporary residence until their fate is decided. They’re also routinely attacking the neighboring areas outside of the occupied areas, including Russian facilities, whereas the Kurds generally are not.

That’s why the Russians support clearing those areas by force on as needed basis. The Turks have pulled back as the SAA and company have advanced. The Idlib terrorist occupied area has shrunk by 1/2 to 2/3rds over time. The Syrian government coalition is likely to continue advancing to regain territory and quell ceasefire violations. As the Turks manage the withdrawal and or reconciliation of the remaining terrorists so that they don’t end up with them in Turkey causing problems.

John Wallace

No where did I say or even intimate that the Kurds were involved. I am well aware from the very first agreement by Assad too Syrian rebels too surrender and be transported too Idlib with personal weapons. No Kurds involved..

RichardD

The Kurds don’t have to be present in Idlib to be part of the problem there. The Turks are in Syria because of the Kurds. Everybody is cutting them some slack because of that. Even the Syrian government has a border crossing agreement with the Turks on that issue.

Nobody is disagreeing that the Turks are engaged in overreach. Due to the inability of the Syrian government being unable to police their side of the border. Or the fact that Turkey is partially responsible for the Syrian government begin unable to police their side of the border. And that the Turks are engaged in Hegelian theater to “justify” their presence in Syria based on the genuine Kurdish threat to Turkish national security.

Of the entire Turkish occupation of northern Syria, the non Kurdish part of Idlib is only about 10% to at most 20% of it. The point that I’m trying to make is that if it wasn’t for the Kurdish problem, it’s unlikely that Turkey would be in Idlib. The SAA and company would clear the Turkish border in Idlib of terrorists just like they did the Golan border.

The difference in Idlib is that the Turks are much more supportive of the terrorists there, than the Israelis were of the terrorists in Daraa. You can argue why that is. My perspective is that it’s part of a Kurd containment operation. The only Kurd majority area that the Turks occupy is Afrin. And they have it bracketed by Idlib and Tel Abyad to Ra’s Al-‘Ayn occupation zones.

John Wallace

TLDR Save the effort. I am not some schoolboy that needs your help. Better off trying to educate ANTIFA.. See I do have a memory ..

Willing Conscience (The Truths

“Turkish military presence in Greater Idlib will hinder any new operation by the SAA and its allies. A new confrontation with Turkish forces will be inevitable.”

Will they hinder, and is it inevitable, I’m not so sure. I linked this earlier for someone else to read but I think it’s also relevant to this story too, will the 5th army corps have to fight to take back territory, or will they just move in when the Turks move out.

“Recalling that the deal stipulated the creation of a security corridor stretching 6 kilometers to the north and 6 kilometers to the south of the M4 highway, Çavuşoğlu provided an update on the ongoing arrangements to make the area safer. The creation of a new safe zone in Idlib is one of the objectives, the minister said, hinting that it could lead to a new defense line for the Turkish troops deployed in the enclave. That would result in the relocation of the Turkish troops in the area, including its observation posts in the southern parts of Idlib under full control of the Syrian and Russian military, he added. Turkey had established 12 observation posts in Idlib in line with the country’s Sochi deal with Russia in late 2018, but half of them are now surrounded by the Syrian army as a result of a months-long operation by regime forces against opposition groups in the area. Russia has long pressed Turkey to withdraw these troops, but Turkey has been reinforcing them against a potential regime attack.” Çavuşoğlu implied that the Turkish troops may be relocated in line with the new realities in the field and arrangements to be made with the Russians. That would practically end the Sochi deal that led to the de-escalation zone in Idlib and replace it with a new order and a map in the region.”

https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/opinion/serkan-demirtas/turkey-to-relocate-its-troops-in-syrias-idlib-155836

Has a secret deal been done? It’s only the Russian backed 5th army corps that are getting ready for an attack, is that because they’re only going to attack HTS instead of attacking the Turkish backed terrorists as well. Mmm I hope not, Assad’s been getting along very well with HTS lately but suffering the usual crap from the Turkish backed groups, so hopefully that’s who the tigers and the rest of the 5th army corps are going to come down hard on. But if they do Turkey will have trouble reopening the M4 highway, their people won’t like the Russians attacking their terrorists, but if the Russian proxies attack HTS instead, Erdogan will be able to reopen that Goddamned highway a lot faster, and he’s getting desperate to get it reopened here in the west, the east is already open for business thanks to Russia and their new bases in SDF held territory. Everyone claps with glee as the heroic Russians take over more bases in SDF held territory, and I do too, unless they’re the ones near the Turkish border, when those bases are established joint Turkish/Russian patrols on the M4 follow, grrrr, and I don’t like those Russian border bases at all. Why is Erdogan so desperate to reopen the whole Syrian M4 highway, all the way from latakia in the west to Al Hasakah in the east, what does he really need it for, and why does he need Putin’s help, and what does he tell Putin when he asks for help, I’d love to know that. Ask yourselves why, why does Erdogan need the whole Syrian M4 reopened, I know the reason why but most of you don’t, so do you want to know the reason why, it’s to save Erdogan’s arse, that’s why. HTS and the Salvation government are kicking Erdogan’s political arse from one end of Idlib to the other, his alternative opposition government is losing the battle with HTS and the popular Salvation government, and they’ll eventually become so uninfluential in Idlib they’ll practically become politically insignificant in Syria full stop. Assad does trade deals with HTS and Putin tries to reopen the M4 on Erdogan’s request, LOL, opposites in action, lol, grrrrrrrrr.

John Wallace

Yes I agree that it appears deals have been made and in most part they have held the peace, One can’t expect with so many groups with their own agendas that some shit flies every now and then. No one is happy but what alternatives are there . In the bigger picture is Israel and US provoking Iran to war which will make Syria an insignificant sideshow. Is the US blocking of the eastern oil fields of greater importance in a bigger event.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

It costs the US 1.5 billion a year to stay in Syria but they only make 200 to 300 million a year from the stolen oil, so they’re actually losing 1.2 billion a year, that’s why Trump wants to pull out of Syria. The Russian Turkish Memorandum of Understanding that allowed the Turks and their proxy forces to occupy a 150 km long and 30 km wide chunk of NE Syria, also allowed the Turks and their proxies to control the water pumping station that supplies most of Al Hasakah with drinking water. Now the Turks control the water they often use it to blackmail the locals, they turn the supply on and off whenever they want to, and if the Russians allow the Turks to do the same thing in the eastern areas where the oil fields are located, guess what, the Turks and their proxies would control the oil fields as well. I don’t like the idea of Syrian oil being stolen by the US backed Kurdish forces at all, but I’d like it less if that oil was being stolen by Turkish forces. All the major recent announcements from the US have been completely positive, what they promised to do for Iran was actually incredible news, and I was totally shocked the Iranians didn’t jump at the offer [and what they told the Russians was just as good too]. So unlike most people I actually see the US as a positive influence while Trumps in power, he’s gotten rid of all the warmongers who were screaming the loudest for a war against Iran, every single one of the LGBTQI stooges that went to bed dreaming of a US/Israeli versus Iran war, so now all the warmongers are gone, either sacked, forced to leave, or died of natural causes [McCain], it’s more of a business deal policy from the US, not a we’ll kick your butt if you don’t do what you’re told policy. Personally I think Israel’s going to act unilaterally and attack Iranian assets in Syria without US approval or assistance, Netanyahu has corruption charges to face when he leaves office and is potentially looking at a jail sentence, so he has every reason in the world to start a war, he could save his own skin and avoid jail by starting one, and I’m pretty sure he’s not even the least bit worried it might cost the lives of millions of innocent people to save his own skin. The Syrian war should’ve ended back in june 2018, that’s when the Arab League, Israel, and the US all said Assad could remain in power, and they’re all still saying it now, it’s only Erdogan and the Muslim Brotherhood that are still calling for Assad’s removal, and yet it’s Assad’s closest allies doing the most to promote Turkish interests in Syria, that’s a contradiction that deserves a lot more scrutiny than it actually does.
