A recosiliation deal between the Syrian government and militants operating in the Rastan pocket has been reached, according to pro-government sources.
According to the Syrian state-run media, militants and their families will be able to evaucate from the Rastan pocket in northern Homs towards the militant-held parts of Idlib or Aleppo provinces.
The militants have to hand over their heavy and medium weapons to government forces within 2 days from the start of the agreement’s implementation.
“The agreement also provides for settling the status of militants who are willing to settle their cases, , the entry of the Syrian Arab army into the region, the return of all state institutions and departments to the area in addition to opening the international highway that connects Homs and Hama during three days as of the signature of the agreement.
According to the agreement, terrorist groups pledge to hand over maps of tunnels, landmines and ammunition depots,” the SANA reports.
The strategic Homs-Hama highway will also be reopened.
The negotiations between the government and militants in the Rastan pocket were relaunched earlier this week after the Syrian military had deployed its offensive units preparing for a launch of a military operation in the area.

SAA actions in Darra and Dier Ezzore are both going to cause serious friction with respectively Israel and the US, and who will act to protect their occupying proxies, and the direct US occupation personnel in east. In those theatres it may get worse before it gets better for Syrian state and forces. But those conflicts are inevitable if Syria is to reestablish full state sovereignty – and that is going to require Russian involvement at some level.
I really hope they launch an operation in the deir ezzor desert because Isis launches many hit and run attacks that proves very costly, more than 180 SAA (NDF) soldiers have died from these attacks in less than a month and a half. After deir ezzor, they should cleanup
Daraa and then there will only be Idlib. Keep in mind that Al-Tanf doesn’t count because the US controls that area. That should only be dealt with when Syria is freed from terrorists so they can lay a heavy siege and bomb their way closer. Manpower is everything now.
Many pro government sources speculate that there won’t be a military operation in Idlib when Daraa and deir ezzor is cleaned up, instead, Assad will tell turkey to kick out HTS and negotiate with Turkish backed militants instead.

Interesting rant, you have hit a lot of points that appear in my mind but are eventually dismissed, because I believe Syria would have been smashed to smithereens only for Russia’s intervention. Unfortunately, what has become abundantly clear over these past 18 months is that Syria will not get S 300 AD System let alone S 400. Yes, Russia position with respect Israel-Iran-Syria is not clear totally. Russia position with respect Kurds (USA-puppets) is even less clear. Russia position with respect Turkey-Syria is the least clear of all. Russia ambiguity with respect to give Syria and Iran excellent defense weapons (S-300 and S-400) (because Israel does not want to) is an amazing statement (assuming Russia policy is not controlled by jews).

This rickety ladder of threats and skirmishes makes all outcomes in doubt – and vulnerable to ownership of the first strong hand. That hand need not be military – but it needs to be decisive. I would hope it is not Trump’s hand – it might be strong, but it is inept and will cause more problems than it solves. And it cannot be Netenyahu – that thing is hardly human – and is not representative of life. Assad could do it – if backed. China perhaps?
