Last figures i read was that they’ve got tens of thousands right there. Couple that with persistent resupply and that becomes a battle between two conventional armies using unconventional tactics. Speculate also how many foreign advisers/commanders these have. lol The ceasefire agreement allowed the SAA to retake the rest of the country at their own pace and time. Though it came with the risk of losing the adjacent cities to Turkey.

The U.S., Britain and FRance have, along with Turkey dramatically stepped up the arming of the terrorists. The terrorists are now receiving very sophisticated armaments, funneled through Turkey. Time for Syria to instill a 50% draft, arm the Kurds and Arab, Assyrian tribes to the teeth, so they can start a lethal insurgency, which they are ready to do.

You haven’t been paying attention to this war. The SAA lost ground early in the war because their ranks had been reduced by desertions so were overwhelmed by the numerous ill-trained militant militias that fought each other at the same time. The SAA was able to retake lost territory from those militias because they were still poorly trained and fighting each other. By 2017 the SAA had to muster out tens of thousands of experienced soldiers because they had been fighting for 6 straight years and were agitating to go home, especially those that were forced to re-enlist after their 2 year hitch was up. That left the SAA with an estimated 24,000 front line soldiers with another 90,000 in the rear for support services and garrison duty. The militants were tired of the fighting plus had lost their outside financing so couldn’t pay wages nor buy more bullets. So the moderates reconciled with Damascus with their militias being absorbed into the SAA to replenish their ranks and the extremists were allowed to leave to Idlib or the desolate desert to avoid the expense in manpower and munitions to force them out. Damascus was also content to allow the YPG and SDF to get rid of ISIS east of the river and in North Aleppo with US support since the SAA lacked the men and support to do that themselves. The extremists in Idlib promptly started fighting with each other and other militant groups to gain superiority over them while the SAA got to work training the moderate militias and new recruits to become members of a modern professional army. That takes time when done right so I find it silly that so many nitwits here expect them to rush right into Idlib and Aleppo to take on 70,000+ fighters that now get paid and plenty of munitions from Turkey. The terrain in Idlib and Aleppo is hilly which gives the defender the advantage by stationing ATGMs on the hills to take out SAA traffic on the roads below.

One can ask how much of the liberating was done by SAA and how much by proxy forces. Likely a very large percentage. Concentrating ones enemies under a hostile cover never has been a winning strategy.
