On June 21, fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sahm (HTS) launched three rockets from their positions in the eastern Daraa countryside at the district of al-Nahda in the city of al-Suwayda. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that three civilians were killed and two others were injured as a result of the shelling.
This was the second time when the FSA shelled al-Suwayda this week. On June 19, a similar attack led to massive material loses in civilian properties, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
Earlier this week, several FSA groups, including the US-backed Shabab al-Sunnah, openly warned that they will target the civilian areas in al-Suwayda if the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launches a military operation against them.
The SAA will likely respond to these attacks intensifying its ongoing shelling on the FSA and HTS’ positions in the eastern Daraa countryside. Earlier, the SAA deployed several heavy rockets and missiles launchers in southern Syria, which may be used in this case to deter the militants.
