Radical militants attacking Syrian Arab Army (SAA) positions in northern Lattakia shot down on November 1 their own armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the region.
Initially, activists affiliated with al-Qaeda’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies claimed that a UAV of the SAA was shot down during the clashes in northern Lattakia. However, a photo of the UAV’s wreckage shows that the militants downed a drone launched by their comrades.

The primitive armed UAV appears to be identical to a model used in two failed attacks on the SAA in northern Hama in August of 2018 and this year.
This type of UAVs is equipped with an electric motor and armed with a small warhead situated in its nose section or small-diameter projectiles loaded under the wings. The supposed limited range of this model suggests that it could be remotely-controlled.
HTS and its allies launched a large-scale attack on SAA positions in northern Lattakia in the early morning. All types of heavy weapons were apparently used in the attack, which is being repelled by the army.
