On May 7, an evacuation of militants and their supporters started in the Rastan pocket in northern Homs. Accoridng to local sources, about 3,000 militants and their supporters will leave the area towards the northern Syrian town of Jarabulus currently controlled by Turkey and its proxies.
The Syrian state media reported that buses had already entered the town of Rastan to transport militants and their relatives who do not want their cases to be settled in the framework of the reconciliation agreement reached in the area.
Prior to the evacuation start, local militants handed over 6 battle tanks, 3 BMP vehicles, two Shilka vehicles as well as mortars, anti-tank guided missiles, surface-to-air missiles and other weapons.
According to local sources, the Syrian military assisted by Russia is seeking to finish the evacuation process within 7 days. Once this is done, government forces will re-establish a full control of the Rastan pocket and re-open the strategic Homs-Hama highway.
