A Boeing 707 cargo plane of the Iranian Air Force crashed in Iran’s Alborz province after it overshot the runway during landing. All 16 people on board the aircraft but one are presumed dead.
“A (Boeing) 707 cargo plane, which was carrying meat, took off from Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan and had an emergency landing at Fath airport this morning,” the Iranian military said in a statement on its website. “It exited the runway during the landing and caught fire after hitting the wall at the end of the runway.”
According to the existing data, the military cargo aircraft crashed and caught fire near the city of Karaj.
When the incident happened some media claimed that the aircraft was belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and has presumably involved in some IRGC activities. However, the official statement released by the Iranian military put an end to these speculations.
RIP to the pilots and all killed.
Iran buy modern Russian Sukhoi Super-jet and MC-21 jets.
This crash was due to pilots error. Also It seams that Iran can’t buy Russian planes without permission from US. Like Airbus, Russian aircraft also have to many American parts!
OK you are right… in this case maybe not, but this was not only incident. Sadde it is only that Sukhoi Super-jet has more than 10% of US equipment so they use right to veto Jet uses Prat & Whitney engines But soon they will put new Russian PD-14 which have better performance than US engines. It was these sanctions against Russia and Iran that have created this new situation that will soon be resolved. https://proxy.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ato.ru%2Ffiles%2Fstyles%2Fr-inpage-super%2Fpublic%2Ffield_image%2Fpd-14_belyaev.jpg&f=1
Engines are built by joint venture created in 2004 by aeronautical engine manufacturers Snecma (Safran) from France and NPO Saturn from Russia.
So no American technology in jet engines..
True I have just seen it in Wikipedia OK if there is no “American technology in jet engines” what makes than 10% of US parts, component in jet? Fucking chairs in cabin? Maybe France have some american parts in their engines or Russians have built avionics with some US electronic parts.
Rest in peace. The plane did not crash. The problem (which happened before) is the presence of 2 airports close to each other and their runways the same direction. The first and smaller one one (Fat’h airport) has a short runway for small aircrafts and the runway (less than 2000m) finishes with a wall of a residential complex. The larger airport has a 4km runway about 10km exactly linear to the former. This morning Karaj had a very limited visibility due to bad weather. Perhaps the crew landed in the smaller runway due to error. The black box is found and the flight engineer is alive, although in sever conditions.
I’ll add a map of 2 airports shortly.
Thanks for the info
Very informative, thank you.
When you go to Iran you notice how close Iranian airports are to residential neighborhoods. In Tehran Mehrabad airport is like smack in the middle of residential neighborhoods. If a plane were to crash there it would seriously kill some people, besides the ones on board. And that used to be the main international airport. I’ve arrived in country twice via Mehrabad. At first you think, who builds them like that? But then you realize, it used to be way out of Tehran, but its just that the city has grown so massively over the past decades that its now inside the city.
RIP for all that have been become victims of this plane, negligence and mismanagement. Iran should develop modern airlines and military jets jointly with China, Russia, Pakistan and Turkey. They can also join Iraq and Syria.
It takes decades to develop an aircraft industry. Prior to WWII the US was unable to build modern aircraft, and most of their famous WWII designs were actually British designs. After WWII the US used captured German engineers as slave labour, to design American planes. The current state of the US aircraft industry is built on the intellect of German engineers and lots of free money. Even the B2 bomber is a copy of the German Horton.
Unless you mean jet aircraft or rockets I disagree, the US had a massive aircraft industry before WW2. Almost all its iconic aircraft, DC-3, P-38. P40, P47, B-17, B-24, B25, A-25, they were all designed prior to the war starting. The French airforce even ordered some of those prior to the German invasion. You cannot churn out tens of thousands of aircraft by the bucketload that saw service in every theater with every Allied air force if you don’t have a functional aircraft industry. Because it takes years, even with unlimited wartime funding, to develop and put into production a new aircraft design.
I think you don’t know the Iranian defense and civil aviation industry. They are making passenger and military planes. They also making own turbo jet engines for own fighter jets and gears and other parts for imported boing and for other planes. Similarly Turkey also producing optical sincers and target pods etc. Pakistan exports fighter jets to other countries. After war Syria, Iraq and Yemen will surpassed other regional countries in the defense and civil aviation industry.
israel once again -look for the culprit and whenever there is murder and mayhem with anything remotely connected to Iran, you will find the ever evil and murderous israelis.
just one thing to do – de-recognize israel and stop all money transfers from abroad and israel will crumble like the proverbial cookie and be missed by no one.! can’t happen soon enough!
Iran can purchase civilian Il-76s elsewhere and replace the 707 used to transport cargo. Use them as spare parts source to keep the air tankers flying more safely.
