On October 11, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially reported that the village of Ostrovskoe in the Donetsk People’s Republic came under the full Russian control.
The captured village is located on the southern bank of the Kurakhovo water reservoir. This is a small settlement right on the outskirts of the strategic Ukrainian stronghold, the town of Kurakhovo.

The settlement was liberated by forces of the Russian South group of forces that is operating on the western outskirts of the Donetsk urban agglomeration. The first reports about Russian forces approaching Ostrovskoe came from the front about a week ago. Then, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were already withdrawing main forces from the settlement. A rear guard platoon of about several dozen soldiers reportedly left in the village to secure the retreat and slow down Russian advance.

The Russian army is rapidly advancing in several directions, taking a large Ukrainian grouping in a pincer. On the southern flank, which is laying along the southern bank of the Kurakhovo water reservoir, the position of the Armed Forces of Ukrainian are rapidly deteriorating. After Oztrovskoe came under their control, Russian forces approached the outskirts of Kurakhovo. At the same time, they are completing the mop up operations in the western part of the town of Maksimylianovka, advancing from the northern and eastern directions, where Ostroe and Grigorovka are already under their control.
On the northern flank of the pincer, Russian forces launched assault on Novoselidovka. Heavy battles are ongoing. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are fiercely fighting for the village sending additional forces to the settlement. Novoselidovka is an important stronghold, control of which will pave the way for the further Russian advance to the south, towards Ilyinka, where the Russian military will surround the large urban area of Gornyak and Kurakhovka.

After a brief regrouping, Russian forces resumed offensive in the Selidovo direction nearby. The Russian army advanced to the west and cut the strategically important road between the towns of Selidovo and Kurakhovo used for military supplies and communications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the front reports, Russian assault groups gained a foothold south of the village of Vishnevoe located on the western outskirts of Selidovo, where the railway and the highway previously used by Ukrainian forces intersect. At the same time, Russian forces advanced toward the village of Novodmitrovka located on the same road west of Tsukurino.
The ongoing Russian advance threatens the Ukrainian military with encirclement of their main stronghold near Pokrovsk, the town of Selidovo. Advancing on the southwestern outskirts, Russian forces resumed offensive north of the town. Fighting in the village of Lysovka, they launch attacks in Sukhoy Yar. Russian assault groups also launch attacks north of Nikolaivka, threatening the enemy with the upcoming assault on the town of Mirnograd.
The military command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fails to stop or slow down the pace of Russian offensive in the Kurskhovo and Selidovo directions. Unable to save control and retreating from one village to another, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are still losing forces in cauldrons like the one west of Nevelskoe. Like it was the case of the recent battle of Ugledar, the doomed Ukrainian soldiers are not allowed to withdraw from their positions safely but are ordered to fight to the last Ukrainian.
