Today, the Bakhmut region seems to be the battlefield of the Ukrainian war. However, heavy fighting is ongoing along the entire front line in the Donbass, including in the northern Kupyansk-Svatovo-Kremennaya region. The front line in this area has remained mostly stable since Russia’s retreat from the Kharkiv region months ago.
The town of Kremennaya is the key to the north of the Luhansk People’s Republic. If the Armed Forces of Ukraine manage to break through in the area of this settlement, they will seize the initiative and threaten Russian Severodonetsk-Lisichansk city agglomeration. That’s why the Russian military held control of Kremennaya in autumn 2022 and is still fiercely fighting defending this town.
The Russian military is still holding military initiative in the area. To the south of Kremennaya, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, with the support of artillery and aviation, continue their attempts to attack Ukrainian positions near Belogorovka. Russian forces are approaching the village, regularly destroying and capturing Ukrainian military positions in the forest area. Fighting is also ongoing near the village of Serebryanka located to the north of Seversk which is an important Ukrainian stronghold in the Donbass.

Fighting continues in the area of Krasny Liman, where a unit of the 25th Airborne Brigade of the AFU on armored combat vehicles attempted to counterattack ans regain control of recently lost positions. The Ukrainian military operation failed. The AFU suffered losses and was pushed back.

The Ukrainian military failed to cut the road between Kremennaya and Svatovo and are forces to defend their positions in the fields to the west of this line. Russian troops have recently managed to advance in the area of the village of Ploshchanka, expanding the zone of their control. As a result of the fighting, several Ukrainian strongholds came under Russian control, and the front line was straightened in the area.
Over the past day, Ukrainian units were defeated by Russian artillery and aviation in the areas of Nevskoye, Chervonaya Dibrova in the Luhansk People’s Republic and Grigorovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. During the day, their losses in this direction amounted to up to 80 servicemen, an armored combat vehicle, two cars, as well as a D-30 howitzer. In addition, three ammunition depots of the AFU were destroyed in the areas of the settlements of Torskoye and Terny of the Donetsk People’s Republic. Russian anti-aircraft missile systems “Tor-M1” and “Strela-10” destroyed Ukrainian UAV.

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian military positions near Dvurechnaya, Sinkovka, Timkovka in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhovka in the Luhansk People’s Republic are constantly shelled by Russian artillery. Over the past day, three Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups were destroyed near Novoselovskoye and Kuzemovka in the Luhansk People’s Republic, Masyutovka in the Kharkiv region. During the day, up to 35 Ukrainian servicemen, two cars, and a D-20 howitzer were destroyed in the area.

What an analysis by SF? AFU have still strongholds in Siversk and Bilohorivka and south of the Kremina line so far I agree.
But if this is a problem for Russia why was there no attack on Fedorivka up the street to Siversk? After the fall of Soledar Wagner just needed to push north to fall the garnisons in the back. The frontline now would have been km westwards. A lot of prisoners made. But wagnerits did not support the regualry army they wanted the glory and honor of the big fish Bachmut for themself.
To compare the situation with WWII it is like Stalingrad. The Germans wanted to have the symbolic city instead of consolidating their lines and gathering support and power. The same is Bachmut for Russia at the end. Taking Siversk had been an easier task than Bachmut and this would have had a real impact for the north section. Now the Ukrainians are fortified again and have more troops collected.
