The Pokrovsk direction in the Donbass remains one of the most dangerous for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The Russian army continues offensive and the Ukrainian military is retreating unable to stabilize the front.
On July 29, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the full control of the village of Volchie west of Ocheretino. Ukrainian military sources reported Russian control of Volchie several days ago.
Russian assault in the village began about a week ago, after Russian forces took control of Progress located nearby. The Armed Forces of Ukraine rapidly retreated from both settlements. The Russian MoD claimed the full control of Progress and Evgenovka on July 28. The day before, the full Russian control was officially confirmed in Lozovatskoe.
After the liberation of the villages of Progress and Volchie, the units of the Russian Center group of troops began storming Veseloe, and they already repelled Ukrainian forces from most of the village. They also approached Ivanovka and Zhelannoe, advanced towards Timofeevka and Sergeevka. Ukrainian military sources acknowledged Russian advance along the railway and in the forest areas on a wide front of about km to a depth of 650 meters north of Zhelannoe over the past day.

At the same time, Russian forces are advancing from the east. The battle for Novoselovka Pervaya is coming close to its end.Russian forces are completing the mop up operations on the western outskirts of the town, expanding their zone of control to the southwest.
Despite all their efforts to stop Russian advance and additional units transferred to the Pokrovsk direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine failed to secure their positions and continue retreating to the west. The Russian advance may soon result in a strategic threat for the Ukrainian military. Important roads used for Ukrainian military supplies in different areas in the Donbass are coming under Russian fire control, while the retreating Ukrainian units are trying to hastily reinforce their defense in another large stronghold in the area, the city of Selidovo, where the advancing Russian forces may come in the nearest future.

The stronghold in Selidovo, which is also an important logistics hub of the Ukrainian military, is threatened by Russian advance from the east in the area of the Karlov water reservoir. Heavy battles continue on its southern and eastern coast as well as in the eastern part of the town of Karlovka. The Russian military is currently completing the mop up operations in the areas west of Yasnobrodovka in order to repel the remaining Ukrainian forces across the water reservoir and the Volchia River.
Heavy battles continue to the north of Ocheretino. Russian forces are still grinding Ukrainian defense on the southern outskirts of the town of Vozdvizhenka, launching attacks from their stronghold in Novoaleksandrovka. At the same time, the frontlines remain unchanged near Kalinovo north of Arkhangelskoe; but the ongoing Russian offensive operations in the northern flank contain large Ukrainian forces and prevent them from reinforcing defense to the south.
Over the past month, the Russian army has liberated the largest territories in different directions since the beginning of the year. In July, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation took control of the largest area since the spring of 2022.
Most of the victories were achieved in the Pokrovsk direction, where the frontlines are pushed to the west with a high speed. Taking advantage of their freedom of maneuvers, the Russian troops continue to advance, grinding Ukrainian defense.
