The city of Ugledar located in the DPR has recently become one of the hottest spots on the Donbass front lines. In January 2023, Russian troops launched an offensive on the city, threatening another strategic line of defence of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the official report of the Russian Ministry of Defence on January 30, the units of the Vostok group of troops continue successful offensive operations and occupied more advantageous positions in the region. They inflicted fire damage to the units of the 1st Tank Brigade of the AFU in the area of Ugledar, as well as to the 102nd Territorial Defense Brigade in the area of Uspenovka in the Zaporozhye region.
“The total losses of the AFU in these areas during the day amounted to up to 25 Ukrainian servicemen, two armored combat vehicles, a D-20 howitzer, two D-30 howitzers, as well as a self-propelled artillery installation “Carnation”. – the report reads.
In his turn, on January 30, the acting head of the DPR confirmed the advance of Russian units in the Ugledar region.
“We can already say that they managed to gain a foothold in the eastern part of Ugledar” – he claimed.

Meanwhile, the situation remains tense on the battlefield. Russian forces have recently entered the city of Ugledar. In the private sector in the south-east of Ugledar, Russian Marines of the Pacific Fleet are engaged in positional battles with superior enemy forces. Heavy battles are ongoing while Russian forces are advancing from their positions in Nikolskoe. Russian forces are also surrounding the city from the southern direction, advancing from their positions in Pavlovka.
The tactical goal of the Russian military is to take control of the Yuzhno—Donbass No. 1 mine located in the western district of Ugledar, what would allow Russian forces encircle the city. So far, the mine remains under control of the AFU; but Russian troops are approaching it by several kilometers every day.

Russian artillery is already shelling Ukrainian positions in the central and western parts of the city. Before the assault, they are weakening the AFU as much as possible and encircle the city. The road leading to the north is already under fire control of Russian artillery, and is unlikely to be used for military supplies. Another road leading to Ugledar from the west is also heavily shelled by Russian forces, but it is still partially used for transfer of Ukrainian military supples from Kurakhovo.
The Russians are encircling the city. Thus, if the Ukrainian military decides to withdraw troops and leave their positions in the city, they will most likely retreat to the steppes to the northwest under heavy enemy fire.

However, it seems that the Ukrainian military command is still following the tactics to fight until the last soldier despite the threat of being encircled. The AFU has already transferred a lot of reinforcement to the area in order to hold the city at any cost. They are heavily shelling the advancing enemy forces. The areas on the outskirts of the city were also remotely mined with petals. They do not pose any threat to the Russian tanks but can slow down the advance of the vehicles.
Russian victory in Ugledar will threaten another strategic line of defence of the AFU in the Donbass region. It will pawe the way for Russian assault in Maryinka from the southern direction. Up to date, Ukrainian fighters are in control of the western part of the village.

All Ukrainians defense lines are going to bypassed and demolished soon by Russia. Ukraine army is going to be annihilated in the Donbass. And Russia even did not start its spring offensive. Who will defend Charkow or Liwow?
