- Washington denied reports that the US and the Taliban had reached an agreement on the creation of a transitional government;
- Syed Abdul Halim Sadat, a member of Samangan Provincial Council, was killed after being kidnapped by the Taliban in Baghlan Province;
- At least 30 government troops were killed and 20 others were injured in a Taliban attack on the Bailugh area and a check point close to the Daichopan district administration center, Zabul province, the Taliban said;
- 3 civilians were killed and 3 others were injured in a NATO strike on the Nawzad district, Helmand province, the Taiban says.
