The 2014 elections were so riddled with fraud that it almost caused a civil war in Afghanistan. Must be the US ‘assistance’. Everything the US touches turns to shit – why would a new president for the Afghan government mafia NOW even matter? They’re history.
The Taliban are working out the terms of the government’s capitulation and the US loss. It’s their country and their opium – they won. WE (the US) don’t get to weasel in terms favorable to either the CIA/USAID, CENTCOM or Cheney and Bush’s contractor cronies. Trump won’t get us out of Afghanistan. Our only hope now is if the Taliban make us leave. I don’t trust them though. A few million in bribes to the right hands and the US will still have a few expensive, useless, permanent bases there forever.
Even without US interference, Afghanistan’s in a part of the world where vote rigging and other forms of corruption are common.
