A brief overview of the recent developments in Afghanistan:
- On January 5, a position of the Afghan Army was blown up by a tunnel bomb near Panjwayi Bazar;
- On January 6, clashes between Taliban and Afghan army forces continued north of Qandahar in the Arghandab district;
- On January 5, at least six Taliban fighters were killed and four others were wounded in an army operation in the Baghlan area;
- On January 5, US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad met with Former President Hamid Karzai in Kabul discussing the ongoing peace process;
- On January 6, government security forces arrested 2 Taliban members in Jalalabad city.
