A brief overview of the recent developments:
- On November 12, President Ashraf Ghani confirmed that Anas Haqqani, Haji Mali Khan and Hafiz Rashid, three Haqqani Network commanders, have been “conditionally released” in exchange for the release of two Haqqani-held professors who were abducted while working for the American University of Afghanistan;
- 4 civilians were killed and 3 others were wounded by ations of US-backed forces in the Zurmat district of Paktia province and the Chak district of Logar province, the Taliban says;
- Over 17 governemnt troops were killed and 2 vehicles were destroyed in the Alishir district of Khost province, the Taliban said;
- 5 government troops were killed and 2 others were wounded in an insider attack in the Obi district of Herat province, the Taliban announced.
