if i was a russian speaking eastern ukrainian and the russian army, which had been supporting the separatists since 2014, invaded, i suppose i would view that army as invincible and given the stalinist oppression of dissent being imposed by the kremlin on everyone within its preview, identify with the russian side, but such is the reality in a civil war sponsored by a neighboring behemoth. you are correct the war will go on a long time unless the russian people change their leadership.
