Perhaps a slow advance is intentional as a longer term strategy. Look at the state of some of these front line settlements now though. What if they moved faster? They would still fight the same Ukes but in different towns, so they would get smashed up too. But if the Russian forces stay there for a while until they run out of opposition then they can win the same ground and take it all in better condition. Even Zelensky (allegedly) visited Bakhmut, no need to go looking for targets if they are are happy to come to you!
