As soon as China Joe Biden said he was sending the Ukraine the HIMARS missile system, he forced the Russians into having to destroy the Ukranian military, so they have to sue for peace (so yes, they will need to continue towards Odessa once Donbass is secured). Himars are great. But USA needs to deliver at least 500 of these in order take make them effective resp. make them become a game-changer for the war. If they deliver 20 , 50 or 100 that will at best be a painful sting into the hip of the russian offensive. Maybe Ukraine can effectively use Himars in a counter-offensive if 50 -100 Himars are delivered, but to really make them a game-changer and blow the russians out of Donbass and Lugansk at least 500 Himars are needed.
Always keep in mind that Ukraine does not have air-superiority of these areas, and not even over all of the rest of Ukraine. Then remember the russian missile capacity. So it is clear that about 15-50 % of the delivered Himars will likely further or later fall victim to eighter russian missiles strikes or air raids. Himars can fire several hundred kilometers. But if not used in a concentrated form, they will not make a difference if not deleivered in the appropriate amount. And I do not think USA will do that. Maybe they will deilver 50-100 pieces yes. It’s good, but still not enough to turn the tide. But it will, of course, cause a lot of havoc and casualties on the stinky putler invader forces, that’s for sure, at least.

The footprint of 1 Himar battalion in Ukraine would be spotted and targeted in less time than it would take to unload a rack of 6 missiles from a truck and load it into a launcher.
I am thinking that the cost of the launchers, munitions, and support vehicles for one batallion (9 launchers) is close to 500 million dollars. Trained personnel and support at least 500 troops.
