Russian forces began direct assaults on Severodonetsk on May 27 after fully encircled the town. Russian forces have performed very well in operations in the Don Bas region and will be able to advance rapidly in Severodonetsk itself. Russian forces continue to make steady and incremental gains around the city and are attempting to encircle the poorly motivated Ukrainian defenders. Ukrainian forces continue to flee or surrender across eastern Ukraine and have failed to even slow most Russian lines of advance. Russian forces will likely continue to make solid advances and will succeed in encircling Severodonetsk in the coming days, as Russian operations around Izyum also gain momentum and a pincer to trap large number of AFU is developing.
