Between 1,500 and 2,000 loss of live, an 3x wounded, is very significant. It’s hard to expect a hollywood Rambo type outcome in an operation like this. You don’t inflict several times those losses on the enemy without loosing some of yours.
I think their communications, close air support, and evac operations were lacking, and hopefully they’ve made great improvements in these areas.
Keep in mind Ukraine land area is vast. Even Iraq style invasion where you carpet bomb with B-52 equivalents to soften up enemy, take out vast infrastructure. and don’t care too much about civilian losses (~200,000), you would be taking significant losses (The US lost almost 4,500 troops in Iraq).
Ukraine is about 150% land area of Iraq. And unlike Iraq, it doesn’t have over half of its land area being trivial terrain (best type land scenario, fairly flat desert).

They are scattered in an area between the cities of Kharkov, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk. They are dug in near Donetsk.
