Well not really holding the line. They are dying and merely blocking the way. Even with the failure of Russian commanders with the mass casualties taken on new years eve celebration, the Ukrianians have lost 10~20 times the number the same day. Bakhmut will be leveled by the time this is over. Will it matter? No. The city can be rebuilt. The Ukrainians who will have died in the tens of thousands will take generations to recover if they ever do. Russias losses will be in the thousands but sustainable and easy to recover given the nation recently acquired millions of new citizens this year. Mean while the UK USA and other NATO states are shaping the barrel of what they have and what they can send. Their economies are trashed and people weary of their governments lies and corruption.

Why the hurry Blyad? The goal is not to take Artyomovsk too fast. The goal is to kill the Nazis, as many as possible. And the city offers a good ambush for that purpose. The grinder is on.
Change of tactics. Wagner are now playing Sniper Vs Sniper. Instead of slowley clearing out snipers by demolishing buildings used by them, which pretty much leaves the city demolished, Russian forces hold no particular ground but instead circulate. The steady demolition of buildings was the tactic used against ISIS (or devised by the CIA in order that ISIS would inflict maximum damage on Syria.). Much of Mariupol had to be sacrificed using this tactic. Now Russia chooses a slower, more effective tactic. Ukraine’s snipers have to keep moving as well! But generally all this hide and seek preserves the city’s buildings and infrastructure. Ukraine has responded by trying to just swamp the zone with troops (a classic West Point remedy) but this only invites lethal airstrikes… so no joy there for The Pentagram either…
