The West must and will be humbled. I certainly get your point about achieving this end by forcing a long-term Ukrainian war on the US/EU megalomaniacs and imperialists.
However, I still think Russia should move to destroy Ukrainian military power and polity at the earliest possible moment. For now, the slow, grinding approach suits Russia’s tactical and strategic aims perfectly. The Nazi army is being dealt death from a thousand cuts; eventually it will collapse. But when the opportunity presents itself, Russia’s army perform a swift, decisive decapitation of the enemy.
I believe this because, in my opinion, if the Nazi army is allowed to survive for too long, the West may find some new way to turn it into a conventional threat, once again, to Russia.

Barvinkov seems to be the north salient target, that will end any resupply from Kharkiv to all eastern Ukranian groupings, not to mention that it will limit access routes for any resupply from Western Ukraine. They may be able to encircle the entire eastern Ukranian army in the coming weeks as the Russians break out of the mountainous areas. We’ll just have to wait and see if the Ukrainian’s have any type of plan to forestall the obvious.
In reality if Russia wants to adopt a posture that levers Ukrainian geography to limit Ukrainian and western logistics. It really has to take everything east of the Dnieper river and even widen that in parts. For example should Russia go all the way to the Moldovan border? If they did that, they would be under far less natural geographic protection, so is it a case of – if you need do that, you might as well liberate all of Ukraine from the Kiev Nazi regime. Indeed is Ukrainian accepting peace, the only limitation to Russian continuing its liberation and de-Nazification of Ukraine.

I believe that is their overall plan, but they are trying to limit their loses in the mountainous regions, and trap as many Ukrainian troops and equipment as possible. Once the resupply must come through flat land, they will be much easier targets for the Russian artillery and missile troops during the mostly road convoys due to the train systems tactical destruction. Once this eastern area is pacified, the Russian advance will be on the doorsteps of Dniper and for the Ukranian troops to fall back from Doetsk in order to defend Dniper. The Russian will then have troops freed up to advance on the Odessa front.
About 100 to 200 Ukrainian KIA per day. The general ratio is about 5 wounded to every killed, so they’re suffering anywhere from 500 to 1000 casualties per day. Russians have reduced their casualties to barely a dozen or so a day thanks to firepower advantage. Ukrainian desperation is now quite evident as they no longer fantasize about “counter attacks” and have no aircraft left.
