Why do you think those long supply lines were there that usually no top military brass would consider? If not to block most of the roads to Donbas? In fact other than the poltava route all were blocked or on fire control. No such thin supply routes with no buffer zones and protected flanks at Donbas, we had to force a quick deep penetration to secure Mariupol and the Crimea landbridge. If anything came of it, then good. But Kiev cannot be taken that quickly, we will come back later with more and better forces and a secured rear.

Well, we now know the Russian tactic. Pound their defensive positions into dust, then advance and occupy the territory. They seem to have hit on a winning strategy for now but with Ukraine refusing to negotiate, Russia may end up needing to pacify the whole country ……..
Truth is they abandoned all other tactics… I would prefer they had used both. They showed early on their ability to strike deep and they should have kept this going. Right now Between Popasnya in South Lyman North is but a short distance a Helo assault behind any UAF would work wonders. In addition the VDV should be ferried in at night dropped behind lines to ambush any and all UAF being sent to the area. This would cause Havoc as it did early on Russian behind every tree, either way they should not have abandoned the rapid movement all together. A combo would work well.
