Yes, but why were they numerically inferior? Why did they allow it to be so when it was obvious for months in advance that they needed more men, they needed to escalate on time, be proactive, not reactive.
That was a politically strategy based on some ethical and moral values and had nothing to do with the military requests anterior to the start of the war. Russian MoD had another plans to wage that war but political factors prevailed. And imho was an error and proved to be a very costly mistake.
Yes, but they could have sent more reservists over there, armed to the teeth. It was bad management and bad timing. I hope however that the Russians learned from this mistake.
Was it a mistake? They lost next to nothing in this action. Just land. Equipment and manpower losses were so minimal that you had US generals even giving praise for the Russian Command in its ability to organize the withdrawal without suffering losses. Meanwhile the Ukrainians lost hundred upon hundreds in their advance into unoccupied Territory as the Russians had pounded them with artillery and CAS. The fact is, Ukraine ocmver extended with that push and lost thousands in the process. This is a loss they haven’t recovered from and most likely never will. They gave so much in terms of equipment and manpower for land that they are now failing to hold it as small assault groups from Russia slowly work through their defensive lines, retaking village after village until a major hole is created.
Where are these thousand of new Russian troops and what are they doing? Get the gloves off and get at it, this is embarrassing, like watching paint dry. Be like Wagner folks.

It’s insane to me to see them fighting so hard for lands that much of western Ukraine completely ignored and neglected until 2013. There’s not much cultural connection between much of the east in Ukraine and the western part.
