russia doesn’t have enough troops to create a cauldron. if they are lucky they might be able to dig some trenches and then grind, that is all they seem to be able to manage.
the whole point of creating a cauldron is that the enemy doesn’t see it coming. and neither do you, obviously. the dpr/lpr militias, with the help of russian volunteer troops. pulled this trick off a number of times back in 2014 and 2015.

every russian military officer is trained to use strategic depth and attrition to win. russian territory can and should be usable to deplete the opponent. they have done exactly as they are trained to do.
russia in a state of war while enemy satellites orbit unimpeded overhead monitoring troop movements and defenses, guiding drones and cruise missiles and providing targets for long range missiles is the oxymoron here. you are either at war or you are not. if you are at war you destroy enemy surveillance and spy apparatus.

yesterday, i watched a cheap b movie called megashark where it swallowed entire boatloads of shark hunters after a bounty in one gulp, then i thought of ukrainians in kursk.
the russians don’t have enough troops to do that so they are building defensive lines and will proceed to do their snail pace grind nonsense.
it is clear that neither side is able to sweep over prepared defenses quickly and even full nato entry into the war would leave them impaled in the teeth of fortifications too. nobody is able to do that and everyone has to go slowly, it isn’t unique to russia
