The security situation in the region remains to be complicated in both areas controlled by the Turkish Armed Forces and Turkish-backed militant groups (the Afrin region) and in the Idlib de-escalation zone, which is mostly controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and its allies.
