A brief overview of the recent developments in northwestern Syria:
- The Turkish Defense Ministry said that its forces had hit 50 Syrian targets ‘neutralizing’ at least 76 pro-government fighters;
- Clashes between the Syrian Army and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham erupted near Tall Sultan;
- Turkish-backed militants targeted several Syrian Army positions near Kafr Rumah with ATGMs;
- Government forces liberated Kadur and Rweiha;
- Firefights between the Syrian Army and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham are ongoing near Zaytan;
- The Syrian Air Force targeted militant positions in Sarmin, al-Mastumah, Taftanaz and several other areas across Greater Idlib.
I know turkey seems to exaggerate numbers. But dam did they just massacre 70 soldiers.
Let us hope not, but have read they got 4 Russians 58 SAA, and flew an F16 in Syrian airspace to do it. There will be hell to pay if it’s true. Likely just for Turkish consumption, although Erdogan is in Ukraine slagging “the Russian annexation of Crimea”.
Turkey is in a tough spot balancing its Islam and Diplomacy and treaties with the kufar.

I hope (once anti-terrorist actions in Idlib finished ) that Russia will stop completely to support actively Assad. Since Russian promise for help was linked only with fight against terrorism and since Syria was never official Russian allay they have no obligation to Syria whatsoever. All that Russia gets in return is backstabbing anyways. Not worth it at all. Turkey is entirely Assad’s problem. US and Kurds also, IsraHell also. Not single Russian life should be wasted ever again in Syria.
Syria was most definitely a Russian ally, and it has been so since Soviet times. Russia uses the port of Latakia for its navy and the Khmeimin air base for its air force. Russia went into this war to protect its allies and its bases, rightly fearing that if Syria had come under new Western backed management it would have lost its bases, just like it would have had Ukraine not lost control of the Crimea. And as the Crimea has shown, Russia will not just relinquish its bases. And Turkey is also Russia’s problem as it does walk a tightrope between supporting Syria to get its territory back from Turkish backed terrorists and occupation, and trying to woo Turkey away from NATO.
Also, think of the street credit that Russia has gained with its war in Syria. The US regularly throws its allies under the bus if it no longer needs them, or thinks it can extort a better deal. The Kurds now know all about that. Russia on the other hand has stood by Syria and even expended its own blood. That makes Russia a hell of a lot more interesting and attractive then the US as a potential ally. Sure, the US can offer a better deal because it has shitloads of money and troops to offer, but you just never know with the Americans. They’re like the banks. Offer you a loan when times are good and foreclose it when times are bad.

Legality is not “noise ” but only valid international parameter. There is no such thing as “alliance” and even less “friendship” between 2 countries without adequate documents. Legally it is totally non existent and non obligatory. Russia can hardly justify all dead Russians in Syria as it is.. Once terrorists in Idlib are all eliminated Russian promise will be fulfilled. So Russia can immediately stop that adventure that is harmful for her economy. And send many of their forces back. Russia must concentrate how to help Russians in Ukraine , not Arabs in Syria.

First of all Syria didn’t invite Russia, Iran did. Iran is the one that went to Moscow and had secret talks with the Russian leadership months before it was announced that Russia is planning to intervene in Syria, General Qasem soleimani / Saeed Jalili and Putin were present in those talks. the main points of those talks was to Unite with each other to fight the US hegemony in the middle east, fighting international terrorism was one of the ways to achieve that, starting from Syria and Iraq. the Iranian and Russian intervention didn’t come without a price, an Iranian official said that Syria have signed a portion of its oil and other natural resources to Iran, and the same goes for Russia, and continued saying that these resources would compensate all the money that is being put into helping the Syrian government fight this international terrorism and profit in the future, there his no charity here, everyone had guaranties, so liberating Syria from terrorism and the US presence is part of the agreements with the Syrian leadership, i hope you stop acting childish and go back to making positive influence here.
