According to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq, ISIS killed 42 Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers during the attack. 58 more SAA members were allegedly killed in a car bomb attack on a gathering of SAA soldiers near Ghanim al-Ali village. Where were the RuAF and SyAAF to take out that columns of vehicles heading from Maadan? They got really poor recoinnassance…

Red Tick Alert

Firstly RIP to the heroic defenders of their Country.

Now, I must agree with you on your comment, however I cannot believe that the air support would not be there if requested; I just have a feeling that maybe they became a little gung ho as they were on a good run and thought they were invincible so didn’t wait for it (it happens when the end is in sight) – my view only

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Truly sad nearly 100 sons of Raqqawi tribals dead , they were defending their land rest well Sons of Raqqa.

Red Tick Alert

If true; I am sorry about that; however didn’t the Yanks get into (or on their at towards) Raqqa before Syria had defended Damascus ? – the only scum you can blame is the US, Saudi and the rest of the c**ts …. just for your info; whatever you hear or read, the UK did not partake in any military action.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The US,Israel and their GCC allies still participate attacks in the south region near Daara. The US actions have always been coordinated with Israel seen in a video 4 marine humvees with 4 humvees numbered 211-214 in one attack while their proxies hung back waiting for a breach in the SAA defences.

Red Tick Alert

Have you noticed that the Russians are bringing the S-400 units up front now as opposed to sticking them in a Damascus warehouse ?.

Personally, I think the Russians should be more astute of the Americans.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They need to be more wary and second guess the US and it’s suspect allies like Israel and KSA , UAE, Jordan. They all have hidden agendas while the US supports the KRG and had ensured the support with it’s allies. They need to nip that one as there are no groups among the Kurds who Turkey would truly work with, they are smart enough not to trust the Barzani-Zebari faction.

Red Tick Alert

Israel are the ones that worry me, as they do have some serious fire power and if they are not the instigators of this war, they are part of it.

Red Tick Alert

PS Jordon are British owned not Yank.

My views on the Kurds keep changing – they were heroes, now they are scum: in Syria and Iraq ; if they worked WITH THE GOVERNMENT they would benefit more in the medium and long term in my view.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

Jordan supports the US more than Britain , like many she thought she had and they rejected her and now dance with the deceitful seductress.

Red Tick Alert

Smoke and mirrors.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

The Russians and Syrians have an integrated air defense system now that should help and will use the various drones to monitor along with other technology areas during the span between orbits.

Red Tick Alert

Allegedly they have knocked 12 objects out of the sky so far …. I want a zero behind the 12 shortly.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

That would be nice but they need more AD and radar in Syria to expand their Radar controlled zone. There was a reason why Daesh targeted those systems just as they did in Iraq and Libya.

Red Tick Alert

Personally I think Israel will up the anti soon.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They will always up the ante , they have targeted Turkey through it’s various proxies calling for sanctions there. Then they are starting a P.R. campaign blaming Qatar for organizing the Terrorist factions in Homs and elsewhere when HTS is an Israeli/Saudi just tool as the other terrorists are backed by the other belligerents. Trying to disrupt the de-escalation zones , with terror attacks against civilians.

Israel and the Sauds like the US always target civilians very little in strategy differences.

Red Tick Alert

“ante” – damn apologies for my spelling and schoolboy error.

Have a look at “South Front” and “Almasdar news” if you do not already know them.

The Qatarian nonsense beggar’s belief, I cannot figure out if it’s smoke and mirrors or genuine yet. The thing is that Qatar is closer to the EU in terms of political alliances and influence than they are to the US – maybe a way for getting cheap LNG into Europe ?; but then I end up dismissing that.

“Israeli/Saudi” – they are crapping themselves about the Shi’ite . Shia crescent – God I hope it happens.

Bahrain needs an uprising and take the East of SA along with it (together) and so on and so on.

Joe Doe

This is not so much issue with RuAF and SyAAF, rather very poor intelligent gathering and poor tactical and strategy planning. You never stop advances when you have momentum and you never stop advances on cities when you force are at the gate of Maadan city. This was one of many blunders of SAA made. This allow ISIS regroup, rearm and rest before organize such attack from Madan city

Per Karlsson

So, you don’t think what they accomplished in Hama/Homs instead of laying siege to Maadan had any value?

Attrition47

You don’t know your attrition from your elbow. Headlong advances ask for humiliating reverses. For the moment the situation at Maadan is secondary to the pockets being squeezed further west. If the US proxy SDF are making a run for Deir Ezzor, let them exhaust the US head-chopping, heart-eating rapers so that the Syrians can sweep up.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They tried pushing towards Raqqa to get the Adviser rats out of the region and back with the US/Coalition forces. The SAA had created a corridor to get people from Raqqa out and why that section is held by the SAA as they had put up a flag at the University, letting the people know of a safe corridor south.

Graeme Rymill

The SAA was at the end of a 250km supply line stretching all the way back to Aleppo. The advance left its flanks exposed. With each kilometre it pushed forward it needed to drop soldiers off to man checkpoints and overwatch position on hills. The sensible decision was made to bring the offensive to a temporary halt. Troops were diverted from the Euphrates to help create the 2 pockets in central Syria.

These local ISIS successes are in no way affecting the overall strategic outlook. ISIS is being crushed.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They have a gap in their Satellite coverage and the US knows when it is passing and relays the information to it’s advisers among Daesh. The US relies on satellites from the Coalition to fill their gaps which are even bigger than the Russians , why their are internet issues everywhere. There is a great deal of information being sent to the US and relayed to the various commands in the Middle East.

Solomon Krupacek

and the US knows when it is passing

it is on internet

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

You can track most by a simple calculation of it’s known orbital flight path and you can watch the internet traffic on the web it is just a bunch of lines traveling by various server traffic globally. there seems more going to Washington and the middle east than most points.

Graeme Rymill

You seem to think the Russian and Syrian airforces have unlimited numbers of planes. The two pockets would have priority for air resources. The Euphrates River soldiers have to make do with the crumbs.

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They are both have limited amounts of aircraft and not an unlimited supply of munitions, they prioritize the fronts and they needed them the Sons of Raqqa to better prep their defenses reversing ieds work very well in defense dotted along the outer area.

Wahid Algiers

AMN: The most of the losses the pro-government forces suffered yesterday were from the Raqqawi tribesmen; they were tasked with protecting the Syrian Army’s recently captured territory. Led by the Nabhan Group of the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the Islamic State’s positions, killing scores of terrorists to avenge their losses on Thursday. https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/syrian-army-strikes-back-southern-raqqa-retake-lost-ground/
