Thismap shows how much has been accomplished. It also show how much
remains to be done. I would very much like to see those green pockets
eliminated.
Posters on this site often rightly condemning of the ‘militants’, however, it
has to be said that they are a very resilient and determined fighting
force. I know all sorts of explanations can be made for this . I
don’t find such explanations entirely conniving. It is tragic that
such effort should be so misdirected.
The Green areas are Ceasefire zones and have been such for nearly a year some except in the east, others keep violating it and are listed as enemies, since HTS is a terrorist group any who side with it are terrorists. Here people check multiple sources and a bit more educated on the matter than most, so they qualify their comments appropriately. Those whom think they are making a qualified comment usually will later do some further checking and realize they erred in previous comments.
Does this include the South Damascus desert pocket that can be seen a
little above the Jordan border? May be I need to check multiple
scourers but I think I recall only recently a report on SouthFront
describing fighting and attempts to completely close the pocket and
eradicate it ( you can see it is almost cut off). This is what I had
in mind when I made my comment. But I admit I have an imperfect
understanding.
The US can’t control their proxies there or anywhere and are going to cut funding from them and leave Al Tanf but the Jordanians fund these ones there.Jordan was guaranteed that part of Syria by the US which has lost control of the situation in Syria and can’t even guarantee the division of Syria anymore, but can of their own country.

I call it the Al Safa pocket, there is not much there except for lava rock.
Doubt that many (if any) FSA are still there, have not heard of any activity there for quite some time, no grad rocket harassment, etc (maybe it is just empty and should be colored red?)
The pocket doesn’t get cleared until the IEDs are removed and any other surprises are removed. The Hashemite tribesmen seem to encroach on this area as they are 100% Sunni Salafists. They are another threat of Sunnis brought by the US into the region from Jordan. The Jordanians didn’t shoot the ones that retreated as they were not part of ISIS like the last Hashemites were.

The Syrian Army, compromising of the:
Republican Guard
104th Airborne Brigade
17th Reserve Division
137th Mechanized Brigade
Have cemented themselves in military history, to be sieged by ISIL for more than 3 years, to have been able to withstand everything thrown at them (Suicide bombing, artillery and rocket barrages (and not forgetting the Royal Australian Air Force ‘accidentally’ dropped six bombs on government forces in botched air strikes in Syria late last year. You could say history is condemned to repeat itself, this is Assad’s House, in respect to the legendary Pavlov ‘s
House (which was a fortified apartment building in which Red Army defenders
held for 60 days against a heavy Wehrmacht offensive during the Battle
of Stalingrad.)
They are led by a very capable General Issam Izzredine, which has been a true leader and stalwart and why the US tries to demonize him and others only ones known to provide chemical weapons has been the US contractors through Israeli owned Levechko in Georgia via Turkey.

Thanks you. I am glad to hear this. The map makes it look like a threat, at least to my totally inexpert eyes.
