Yea I didn’t think Akashat was really already liberated.

Map is still misleading. Iraqi forces are in the area and roaming around, they just haven’t bothered with this particular village yet. In fact, the terrain allows for free roam all over the place here, roads are a “convenience”. Also, isis presence is also questionable. maybe 5-10 of them in the area. The problem is IEDs, booby traps, etc etc…

Mikronos

Are those 5 or 10 the ‘ISIS forces’ that knocked-out communications at the Iraqi border base in the area a few days ago?

MeMadMax

It was not knocked-out communications…

They destroyed an outpost that was being built…

Those were the same ones in the Al Tanf area not ISIS is my assumption but some CIA force in the desert, some were allegedly killed by the US. They are same ones who attacked the Iraqi border guards lot of new special forces watches with the group and very similar postures.

AladeenTheGreatDictator

Thing is, ISIS uses more guerrilla warfare kind of tactics. If the Iraqi forces don’t control the roads and towns, then ISIS practically still has control over them.

MeMadMax

Have you ever been out in the desert?

You can literally drive wherever you want….

AladeenTheGreatDictator

yes, but the Iraqi forces aren’t denying ISIS that mobility yet, so ISIS can freely flank any force in the area. The more hard cover you take from ISIS, the less they can utilise the desert to their advantage, I’d think.
