A brief overview of the recent developments in Syria:
- More than 2 million Syrians have returned to the places of their pre-war residence with help from the Russian and Syrian inter-departmental coordination headquarters, the Russian Defense Minister announced on December 21;
- Since May 25, the Russian Military Police have escorted about 35,000 vehicles and over 66,000 people via the M4 highway, according to Russian Defense Minister;
- On December 22, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham launched an arrest campaign in the town of Maarat Misrin. The group arrested several people who were calling for its expulsion and the reconciliation with the Syrian government;
- On December 22, a meeting between Russian and Turkish officials reportedly took placea in the village of Sharakrak, near the Ain Issa;
- On December 22, the SDF carried out a security operation in the town of Shuhai. One person was reportedly killed.
