3 battalions of S-300s with an inventory of 300 missiles is 96 tubes that can be launched. That’s more than enough to handle any IAF attack to date. If the missiles are effective at interdicting modern NATO fighters. So far they’ve failed to do that on more than 1 occasion, and it’s damaging Russia’s reputation and credibility.

“On 8 October 2018, Russian news agency TASS reported that three S-300PM battalions had been given to Syria free of charge, citing “On 1 October three battalion sets of S-300PM systems of eight launchers each were delivered to Syria,”. According to the source, the deliveries also included more than 100 surface-to-air missiles for each battalion.[143] It is operated by the Syrian Air Defense Force.”

On September 24th the Kremlin reported:

“The President of Russia informed about the decision to implement a number of additional measures in order to ensure the security of the Russian military in Syria and to strengthen the country’s air defense system, including the transfer of the S-300 modern anti-aircraft missile system.”

On November 7th Tass reported:

“All three battalions armed with S-300PMU-2 systems are ready for combat operation in Syria. Syrian military personnel is now to be instructed in their use,”

The 24 S-300PMU2 launchers that Syria has with 96 total tubes is the most advanced S-300 version in existence and is one step away from the S-400 version. They are as close to the S-400 as you can get without having the S-400. And considering the interchangeability of the systems can probably be linked into the S-400 systems in theater as a force multiplier using the S-400s more advanced electronics and loaded with S-400 missiles to provide peer, or close to it, performance with the S-400.

I don’t think that it would be an overstatement to say that for all practical matters, the SADF now has fully operational S-400 capability. And Syria’s S-200 fleet may also be upgraded to provide surface to surface mach 9 500 pound HE warhead strike capability that the IDF has no defense against short of taking out the launchers.

“The S-300PMU-2 Favourite (Russian: С-300ПМУ-2 Фаворит – Favourite, DoD designation SA-20B), introduced in 1997 (presented ready 1996), is an upgrade to the S-300PMU-1 with range extended once again to 195 km (121 mi) with the introduction of the 48N6E2 missile. This system is apparently capable against not just short range ballistic missiles, but now also medium range ballistic missiles. It uses the 83M6E2 command and control system, consisting of the 54K6E2 command post vehicle and the 64N6E2 surveillance/detection radar. It employs the 30N6E2 fire control/illumination and guidance radar. Like the S-300PMU-1, 12 TELs can be controlled, with any mix of 5P85SE2 self-propelled and 5P85TE2 trailer launchers. Optionally it can make use of the 96L6E all altitude detection radar and 76N6 low altitude detection radar.[17] A version titledHQ-15 is currently in Chinese service.[18]”

“the range of the new defense system will give Damascus the ability to detect potentially hostile aircraft from point of origin inside Israel: “With Putin’s S-300, Assad’s army could even ‘lock-on’ IAF aircraft as they take off from bases within Israel.” And as one Israeli defense analyst put it, “Israel should be worried.” …

Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad recently said that “Israel, which has gotten used to carrying out attacks under various pretexts, will now have to weigh and rethink before attacking again.””

Thanks for this Richard. My own belief is that Syrian Personnel have only just completed or are just about to complete Training on the S-300 (& S-400) Systems, probably in Russia with S-300 Systems yet to come online countrywide across Syria. In addition I believe the manner by which IAF conducted their bombing raids led to a certain amount of confusion within Syrian+Russian Air Defense Personnel during the attack: no-one expected a gradated set of bombing raids ………. as I understand it, there were 3 waves of attack with the thirds wave being the one during which some missiles struck a target in west Damascus, alleged by Jerusalem to be an Iranian-Hezbollah Armaments Dump: although, this latter I very much doubt based on the photographs produced by #IDF following the raids. At any rate, the real problem with the attacks was the fact that Israeli war-planes, once again used the electronic imprint of 2 Commercial Flights from Damascus & Beirut Airports within which to lie in the electronic shadows and grant themselves cover during the raids. I don’t believe Syria & Russia will allow such a state of affairs to arise again. Meanwhile, given that the S-300 systems were not triggered by these raids, I would reserve judgement on both their efficacy and efficiency: I strongly suspect that the S-300 Systems about to come online in Syria will be enough to blow ANY Israeli ordnance from the skies coming from ANY direction.

RichardD

Let’s hope that your right. The issue isn’t ordnance though it’s launch platforms. And Israeli dirty tricks are baked into the cake and are almost certainly part of Russian planning in terms of interdiction.

Having said that. Governments that have or are considering acquiring these Russian systems are watching the Jews walk all over them like they didn’t exist. And they don’t want that to happen to them. And with every successful attack the Jews are doing a lot of damage to Russia’s reputation, credibility, and value as an ally. There really is no why around that, it’s simply how the complete failure to date of the Russian provided systems is being perceived worldwide.

The Jews are making the case with every attack that Russia’s most advanced systems are worthless buoy anchor grade junk, that anyone who buys this stuff is wasting their money, and that the Russian nation is a lot more vulnerable to being overrun by waves of NATO attack aircraft just like Germany was than Russia would like people to believe. That Russia is an easily compromised “ally” that will sell it’s partners out to the evil Jews on the drop of a hat. And until Russia proves otherwise, that’s the current status quo.

I wish that this wasn’t so. Which is why I’m addressing this problem in detail on these threads. It’s also a correctable, paradigm altering issue. If, and so far that’s a big if, considering the way that the IAF is mopping the deck with Russian failures, these systems which have never been proven in combat, actually do work against modern NATO attack jets. Then the balance of global power will shift in Russia’s favor. Until that happens, The evil Jews are successfully making the case that Russia is a paper tiger not to be taken seriously or depended on in a real peer to peer conflict beyond just mopping up a hoard of terrorist proxies with no air support.

I simply don’t know if these systems work or not against peer attacks. Because there’s no proof that they do, and the proof so far is that they don’t. Other systems work against ordnance, but that’s not proof that these systems work against launch platforms. The bottom line is that so far their deterrence value has been completely destroyed by the Jews.

You’re* I stopped reading when I realized you can’t spell. I could continue to read it, but how can I trust your judgement if I don’t trust you to spell words I learned in the fifth grade… If you’d like, I can also attack your argument, instead of merely attacking your character and intelligence. I do await your reply most fervently. Sorry, my english is not the best. It is a secondary language.

RichardD

So far you haven’t demonstrated that you have an argument.

TheCommonMan

Just how many years have you been making excuses for the lack of Russian/Arab success in the air war in the middle east? I don’t think you have the mental abilities to learn how to counter the Western/Israeli tactics and superior air power. Have a good day and please do make more excuses for the failures.

You can call me Al

I would surround the whole of Al-Tanf (50-55 Km area), with hundreds of snipers; there is something odd, that I cannot summarise going on from there. Eliminate anything that moves and give the Yankers 2 months to leave or else.

Billyb3233

Just get the Troops out now! U.S. can go back anytime with Carrier and Cruise missile strikes if necessary in future. We don’t need troops there!
