YPG/SDF are idiots. They have watched USA abandon their Afghan allies, who US were infinitely more invested in than YPG/SDF. The latter cling to an illusion of USA permanent support, and so provide protection for the tiny force of USA troops in NE Syria. YPG/SDF be far better off aligning with SAA and fighting the Turkish invaders together, united from two fronts. But they prefer to live in illusions and pilfering Syrian state oil, that they then illicitly sell to their very battlefield enemies, the HTS militants and Turkish authorities.
