This map provides a general look at the military situation in the Syrian area of Afrin on February 9, 2018. The Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) are still struggling in an attempt to break the YPG defense north of the city of Afrin. The YPG had repelled attacks by the TAF and the FSA in the areas of Sheikh al-Hadid and Bulbul inflicting casualties to the Turkey-led forces.
On February 9, the TAF’s general staff said in a statement that 1,062 ‘terrorists’ have been ‘neutralized’ since the start of Ankara’s Operation Olive Branch. According to the statement, the Turkish Air Force destroyed 19 targets and ‘neutralized’ 34 ‘terrorists’.
Ankara describes the YPG as a terrorist group, the Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
I’m looking on the map and noticing that the big olive branch operation is stalling… Seems that kurds are heavily defending their positions in Afrin area.

I am not so sure. I think the Turks will make slow progress of it, suffer many casualties but in the end, they will get there. Erdy has gone out on a limb and he is the sort of fruit cake that will not let it go, however many of his Country folk die.
Remember the Kurds are boxed in, nowhere to run, even just popping in a few shells, a couple of airstrikes will finally whittle the Kurds down.
I have no side in this 2 way conflict, for me they can shoot at each other all they like.
That’s true. Of course they will take Afrin if they don’t care about the loses… Just that the battle doesn’t seem to be as quick as Erdo was guessing in the beginning. I am wondering how prepared is the Turkish army to face a real war, like this. They have the numbers, they have the equipments, but it seems something really important is missing.
Its called morale compounded by the purge which I think removed some of their most competent officers
Tough territory. Erdogan made sure to frame it in terms of ethnic cleansing (with associated killings) of kurds. And then hes trying to use traitors and mercenaires to do the invasion.
