You need to think about/understand how they are approaching this operation. Using minimal infantry losses against positions fortified for 8 years in Donbass. Simultaneously they are destroying the Ukraps military hardware and reserves as they are brought forward to reinforce that front line. They did not want to take the USA/NATO approach of destroying everything and completely wrecking the countries infrastructure and having huge civilian population casualties.
