Why is fighting near Donetsk so slow to take ground? Long range weapons will be deployed soon, and this will cause problems behind the battle lines, and could be used to hurt civilians.
Great question , also, how are weapon the size of the ones being supplied by the West getting to the front unscathed to begin with? That train system should be completely neutralized at this point and any road shipments should be easy prey. The Russians seem incapable of stopping the flow of supplies to the front lines.
There is a large amount of equipment being destroyed in Ukrainian supply lines but equipment will still get through, they are being sent billions and billions and billions of dollars of equipment. Complaining about some heavy weapons getting to the front is overblown, militaries don’t have magic wands they can wave and discover everything on a battlefield. For instance in US Great Scud Hunt 2,500 missions were conducted and not a single mobile missile launcher was destroyed. Some of the criticisms levied against Russian forces are just hype when compared to the norms of documented military operations.
Why no Russian pictures of these alleged in route destructions? They have to be using smart weapons to do it and those would have digital imaging and the number of items destroyed would be listed, if for no other reason than a morale booster. I’m sorry but they have had a small garrison in Zotote cut off for 2 weeks and still can’t seem to defeat them. After a while the ” they are kicking ass” statements need hard evidence to support them.
Not all smart weapons use digital imaging, there are actually plenty of weapons that use other things like radar(invented in 1935 in case you missed it), satellite, laser, radio, etc. I’ve actually seen a fair share of military barracks, warehouses, and shopping mall parking garages totally destroyed that are full of heavy weapons. I would argue that destruction of massed equipment is more effective than picking off fuel convoys or singular vehicles but the world is a strange place these days. If there is a will then there is a way to get equipment to the front, reference the Ho Chi Minh Trail. You think Zelensky begs Western leaders for more heavy weapons because the Ukrainians are awash with them? How long did it take for videos to come out of donated howitzers getting obliterated after the deal was published?
They don’t need to be one offing a cannon every now and then, they need to be maneuvering, cutting off and capturing intact batteries. Until Russian can show it doing that (a very basic military practice) it will never break the will of the Ukranian army.
Just saw a video of the aftermath of a massive strike at Nikolaev port, unfortunately the weapon wasn’t using digital imaging or Russian forces haven’t decided to release the Call of Duty style predator missile strike after their Donbas killstreaks over the past few weeks. Nothing much is really easy. But yeah, it won’t be a simple matter to get these priority targets to the front. Hopefully a large percentage is picked off before they cause too much trouble. Odds are they will come in from both the western and maybe more so the very southwest (Odessa region) part of Ukr.
RU airforce needs some look down radar patrols capable of detecting slow and stationary targets as these. And as much sat and drone intel as they can cover.
Taking out strategic rail lines is a no brainer, and they’ve already been doing this heavily for over a month.
As for roads in the south, dilemma is, do you take out the bridges between Odessa and the Donbas? If RU ever advances towards Odessa, odds are the Orcranians would take them out anyway.
So by that logic, one can argue might as well that RU takes them out, just a few months earlier (a few months before expected EOL for these road infrastructures).
so by denying efficient short road connections you increase the travel time and number of road options for all sorts of logistics. Convoys become easier to spot. As a whole, the risk of moving a strategic target from west to the front is greatly multiplied.
You don’t have to blow up bridges, you ensure you keep craters at each end until you’re ready to use them. When they start capturing the larger Western weapons systems, I’ll start believing that the Ukrainians are crumbling but right now, all that is should is individual sized weapons.

Geography. Cannot go too far without running into a river, which effectively stops them. Even if they clear Sverodonetsk, they would have to cross a river to get to Lysychansk, so no real point in them rushing to take that city. Same problem if they try to advance from Lyman or Yampil. I think they should have worked on advancing on Siversk from Popasna and closing the Ukrops in, but I do not know for sure what the situation is on the ground there. Too much disinfo out there.
Makes more sense to grind them down in current positions over time. The whole idea of the three day invasion is being pushed by the NATO OSINT basement dwellers, many posters here noted in February that the moves around Kiev were to pressure the government to come to the negotiating table and let Ukrainian forces know that Russia can control the theatre at will even if they choose to take higher casualties with their limited special operation. When it became clear that productive negotiation would not continue it makes more sense to grind them down without strong thrusts that would require longer supply lines and higher casualties. On the other side Ukrainian forces are having to deal with longer and more vulnerable supply lines from the Bandera regions. Western analysis relies on a false premise, that this is a struggle over territory, when in reality it is a denazification and demilitarization operation. Ukrainian forces need to keep replenishing and committing forces to the east, ‘To the last Ukrainian’ is a similar manipulation to a bubble in finance. If they begin to pull back and stop contesting areas in Donbas the scam starts to fall apart – why aren’t we negotiating if we will just lose over 25% of our territory a few months in with a full mobilization that is being mauled against a limited force? Have we not been fighting these regions for eight years with zero results now? And the normal citizens of Ukraine will begin to ask what they are dying for and the bubble will pop. So Ukrainians will continue being sent to die over territory they will never possess for this policy, Russia and DPR/LPR don’t need to search out targets for denazification when they just keep coming into the arms of the cauldrons. You see all the selfies of Ukrainians just getting bombed in trenches? It’s the most efficient manner of denazification for all involved. According to every site in the world, the Ukrainians are making heavy headway in the eastern city Russia claimed to control. Once again, surrounded, cut-off Ukranian units are able to push the Russians back. If this isn’t true, why are the Russians not announcing it?
