Russia, while having a pinpoint strategy of the regions it is going to secure as part of the special operation. Will also need a strategy to settle things down after those goals have been achieved. Now it is certainly valid to disrupt Kiev from an infrastructure and ‘comfortable’ point of view, however, it is key that Kiev is actually functioning in order to try to negotiate a settlement with. Otherwise the only option is to take over the whole of Ukraine, which would be a massive mission creep to say the least. So I think we will see a period of attempted negotiation with Kiev coupled with assessment of stability, after the liberation of the targeted regions from Ukrainian Nazis. Following this the conflict will either dissipate , remain largely static but hot, or engulf the whole of Ukraine.
