it’s not malorossia, but historically it was the red rus’ (or galician rus’) before mongolian invasion in 1237. in 1240th mongols ruined kiev, just 200 people of 40-50 thousands survived. galich (main city of the red rus’) and lvov was conquered by poland. kiev became part of lithuania and lithuana in 14-15 century was as big as poland with many russian principalities inside.
lvov was 400 years under poland, then austria conquered this land. in the end of 19th century germans started ukrainization policy to break ties of local russian population with russia and make them kind of janissary. turks took kids from families in balkans and grew them like fierce warriors, punishers of their own parents after another uprising. so lvov is not welcomed.
same was done with wallach people, southern slavs forced to be “remnants of ancient romans”. like “ancient ukrs” later. german dynasty of bulgaria forced the country to be in anti-russian blocks, though most of people there still pro-russian, because russia fought for independence of bulgaria, wallachia, moldavia, serbia and greece, georgians and armenians to give freedom for all brothers in faith. people remember it, but regimes are installed by enemies of people.
